Fashion forays in the metaverse

Luxury fashion brands are expanding into the metaverse, drawn by its marketing potential as well as the need to guard their intellectual property in a new frontier. While there is money to be made in the metaverse, many legal issues remain unresolved. Professor David Tan, Co-Director of the Centre for Technology, Robotics, AI and the Law, at the Faculty of Law, NUS, discussed the issues of infringement of IP rights in the metaverse and whether parodies or satires of trademarks can be excused from infringement liability.
