As scams get more sophisticated, young and digitally savvy individuals are more likely to fall prey

While many may assume that the older demographic is more likely to fall prey to online scams, Prof Reuben Ng, Lead Scientist (Data and Technology) at NUS’ Institute for the Public Understanding of Risk, and Mr Jared Ng, Communications Manager at the same Institute, caution that the younger generation must not be complacent. This is because studies and surveys have shown that it is actually younger digital natives who are more susceptible to scams. Given that digital natives depend on Internet platforms and mobile apps to shop, bank and communicate, this increased online presence also increases their exposure to the risk of scams and cyber fraud.
