Keppel Land Medal and Prize

Established since 1890, Keppel Land is one of Asia's premier property companies, recognised for its sterling portfolio of award-winning residential developments and investment-grade commercial properties as well as high standards of corporate governance and transparency. Keppel Land Limited is the property arm of Keppel Corporation, one of Singapore's largest multinational groups with key businesses in offshore and marine, infrastructure, and property. The Company is geographically diversified in Asia, with current focus on Singapore, China, Vietnam, Indonesia and India. It has a strategic focus on two core businesses of property development and property fund management.

Donated in 2008 with an expendable sum of S$15,000, the Keppel Land Medal and Prize is awarded to an undergraduate completing the final year studies in the Department of Real Estate.

The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3, a medal and prize will be awarded to a graduating student in Bachelor of Science (Real Estate) programme who has:
    1. obtained at least an Honours (Distinction);
    2. achieved the highest mark in the course RE4701 Real Estate Development; and
    3. obtained a minimum grade of B+ in this course.
  2. The award will be made by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulations, as amended.

 

Keppel Offshore and Marine Medal and Prize

Keppel Offshore and Marine awards annually the Keppel Offshore and Marine Medal and Prize to recognise two (2) top graduating students from Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical Engineering) with specialisation in Offshore Oil & Gas Technology and Bachelor of Engineering (Civil Engineering) with specialization in Offshore Engineering. Each candidate shall be presented with a gold medal and cash prize of $1,250.

Award candidate is selected in the following manner:

  1. The respective Faculty/School/Department (as defined in Clauses 2 and 3, NUS Statute 3) can select a candidate from the graduating cohort, who is an outstanding student specialised in Offshore Oil & Gas Technology (Mechanical Engineering) and Offshore Engineering (Civil Engineering) respectively.
  2. The Department with the concurrence of the Board of Examiners (BoE) shall select the candidates from the graduating cohort based on grade point average (GPA).
  3. The awards will be endorsed by the Board of Undergraduate Studies (BUS) on the recommendation of the Selection Committee (BoE) of the Faculty and Department.
  4. No award shall be made if there is no candidate of sufficient merit.
  5. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically NUS Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Keppel Telecommunications and Transportation Medal and Prize in Geriatrics and General Psychiatry

Donated in 2014 by Keppel Telecommunications and Transportation, an award will be made from an expendable sum of S$22,000.

The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 4 below, a gold medal and cash prize of S$750 will be awarded to the undergraduate medical student with the most outstanding research proposal and publication in Geriatrics and General Psychiatry.
  2. Reports must be submitted through the Dean's Office of the NUS Medicine for adjudication on or before a date to be fixed by the Office.
  3. The award will be made by the Board of Undergraduate Studies or its nominee.
  4. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  5. If no award is made in any year, the unutilized amount will be added to the fund.
  6. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Kernial Singh Sandhu Prize

Donated in 1995 by the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies in memory of Kernial Singh Sandhu, former Director of the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies, the prize is awarded annually to the best student in Southeast Asian Studies in the B.A. Honours Examination.

  1. The prize is awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
  2. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  3. The prize, valued at $300 will be in the form of cash.
  4. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Kerry Prize

In 2017, Kerry Ingredients Singapore Pte Ltd pledged an expendable gift of S$15,000 to establish a prize for students pursuing studies relevant to their field of business.

The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, a cash prize of S$3,000 will be given out to an outstanding Year 2 student with a primary major in Food Science and Technology from the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science.
  2. The award recipient must have obtained a minimum GPA of 4.0 in the Year 2 examination, and have a distinguished record of co-curricular (CCA) activities and community service, or demonstrate excellent leadership qualities.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. The prize will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies or its nominee.
  5. If no award is made in any year, the unutilised amount will be added to the fund.
  6. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Khong Ban Tze Prize in Orthopaedic Surgery

Donated in 2002 by the World Orthopaedic Concern in memory of the late Dr Khong Ban Tze, the prize will be made annually from the proceeds of a capital sum of $30,000.

The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, a cash prize of $1,000 will be awarded to a final year student with the best overall performance during his/her orthopaedic postings and who has also obtained at least a B+ grade for Surgery in the Final M.B.,B.S. Examinations.
  2. The prize will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies or its nominee.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

KLP Medal and Prize (Accountancy)

Established in early 1999, Kong, Lim & Partners (KLP) is a Chartered Accounting firm, serving over 400 clients from a range of local industries, and industries across the region. KLP specialises in audit & assurance and business recovery.

In 2019, to commemorate its 20th Anniversary, KLP donated an expendable sum of $30,000 to establish the KLP Medal and Prize (Innovation and Entrepreneurship) and KLP Medal and Prize (Accountancy).

The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. A medal and cash prize of $1,500 will be awarded to the best graduating student in “Advanced Corporate Accounting and Reporting” and “Corporate Accounting and Reporting” courses, and who has also excelled in the overall Bachelor of Business Administration (Accountancy) Honours Examination.
  2. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  3. The awards will be made by the Board of Undergraduate Studies or its nominee.
  4. If no award is made in any year, the unutilised amount will be added to the fund.
  5. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

KK Phua Prize

Dr Phua Kok Khoo will turn 80 years old in 2022. To celebrate the major milestone, his family members would like to donate an endowed gift of S$75,000 to establish 2 awards to encourage and recognize the excellence and academic achievement of our Physics students.

The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, a cash prize of S$2,000 will be given to each of the following:
    1. Best graduating undergraduate student in computational physics or theoretical research reading a primary major in Physics
    2. Best graduating Master’s Student from MSc (Physics for Technology) or MSc (Physics)
  2. The prize will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies and Board of Graduate Studies or its nominee.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

KLP Medal and Prize (Innovation and Entrepreneurship)

  2. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  3. The awards will be made by the Board of Undergraduate Studies or its nominee.
  4. If no award is made in any year, the unutilised amount will be added to the fund.
  5. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation

 

Knight Frank Medal and Prize

Established since 1940, Knight Frank Singapore has developed into one of Singapore's leading real estate consultancy firms. Knight Frank Singapore is part of the global Knight Frank network that encompasses more than 207 offices in 43 countries across six continents. Donated in 2010 with an expendable sum of S$15,000, the Knight Frank Medal and Prize is awarded to an undergraduate completing the final year studies in the Department of Real Estate.

The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 4, a medal and prize will be awarded to a graduating student in Bachelor of Science (Real Estate) programme who has:
    1. obtained at least an Honours (Distinction);
    2. achieved the highest mark for RE4803 REIT and Business Trust Management; and
    3. obtained a minimum grade of B+ in this course.
  2. The award will be made by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
  3. In the event of a tie between two candidates, the award will be given to the student with the highest overall GPA.
  4. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  5. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulations, as amended.

 

Koh Han Kok Prize

A capital sum of $3,000 was donated in 1980 by Professor Tommy T. B. Koh for the purpose of endowing the Koh Han Kok Prize.

  1. The prize shall be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the Faculty of Law to the best student in Public International Law.
  2. Subject to rule 3 below, the prize shall be awarded annually from the income of the capital sum.
  3. If in any year, in the opinion of the Board of Undergraduate Studies, there is no candidate of sufficient merit, no award shall be made.
  4. The prize will be in the form of cash.
  5. If in any year there is, in the opinion of the Board of Undergraduate Studies more than one candidate meriting the award, the prize money shall be divided equally amongst the candidates or apportioned in such manner as the Board of Undergraduate Studies thinks fit.
