Faculty of Dentistry Diamond Jubilee Medal

Donated by the Organising Committee of the Faculty of Dentistry Diamond Jubilee Celebrations in 1990, a gold medal is awarded annually from the proceeds of a capital sum of $10,000. In 2003, it was agreed that a cash prize may be awarded. The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3, the medal is awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the Board of Examiners to the best student with distinction in Physiology in the First Professional B.D.S. Examination.
  2. In the event that no student is eligible for award of a medal, a cash prize may be awarded to the student who obtains the highest mark and an 'A' grade for the subject.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

FengHe Award

FengHe Group is an Asian alternative asset management firm that uncovers investment opportunities in emerging markets. In 2021, FengHe Group made an expendable gift of S$100,000 to establish the FengHe Award to encourage and motivate students to achieve academic excellence in the area of finance and investment. Two cash prizes will be supported by its expendable gift.

The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. (a) A cash prize of S$10,000 will be awarded to the most outstanding student in the Bachelor of Business Administration Programme, or Bachelor of Business Administration with Honors Programme, or Bachelor of Business Administration (Accountancy) Programme or Bachelor of Business Administration (Accountancy) with Honors Programme based on his/her grade in the course "Investment Analysis and Portfolio Management," with a preference for students majoring in the Finance Specialization; and
    (b) A cash prize of S$10,000 will be awarded to the most outstanding student in the Bachelor of Business Administration Programme, or Bachelor of Business Administration with Honors Programme, or Bachelor of Business Administration (Accountancy) Programme or Bachelor of Business Administration (Accountancy) with Honors Programme based on his/her grade in the course "Financial Markets," with a preference for students majoring in Finance Specialization.
  2. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  3. The award will be made by the Board of Undergraduate Studies or its nominee.
  4. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Feng Pao Hsii Prize in Rheumatology

The Chapter of Rheumatologists, College of Physicians, Academy of Medicine, Singapore has pledged an expendable amount of S$7,500 to award the Feng Pao Hsii Prize in Rheumatology in 2011. The award will be given out annually with effect from AY2011/12. The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 2 below, a cash prize of S$750 and a plaque will be awarded to any third or final year Doctor of Medicine or MD/PhD student with the best written report on a research project in the field of Rheumatology. The author of the report should be a collaborator on the research project.
  2. No award shall be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  3. Reports must be submitted through the Student Affairs Office of the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School for adjudication on or before 1 July of the calendar year in which the prize is awarded.
  4. The winner will be decided by the Duke-NUS Student Awards Selection Committee on the recommendation of the adjudicating panel comprised of the Heads of the Division of Rheumatology, Department of Medicine, NUH, Department of Rheumatology, Allergy and Immunology, TTSH, Department of Rheumatology & Immunology, SGH, Chairman, Chapter of Rheumatologists, College of Physicians, Singapore, President, Singapore Society of Rheumatology, and a faculty representative from Duke-NUS.
  5. The prize will be awarded by the Board of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the Duke-NUS Student Awards Selection Committee.
  6. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulations.

 

Feng Pao Hsii Rheumatology Prize

Chapter of Rheumatologist, College of Physician, Academy of Medicine, Singapore pledged an expendable amount of S$15,000 to award the Feng Pao Hsii Rheumatology Prize in 2011. A cash prize of S$750 and a plaque will be awarded in each academic year.

  1. Subject to rule 2 below, the prize will be awarded to any third to final year undergraduate medical students with the best written report on a research project in the field of Rheumatology. The author of the report should be a collaborator in the research project.
  2. Reports must be submitted through the Dean's Office of the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine for adjudication on or before a date to be fixed by the Dean's Office of the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. The prize will be awarded only if a report of sufficient merit is received.
  3. The award will be made by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the adjudicating panel comprising the Heads of Division of Rheumatology, Department of Medicine, NUH, Department of Rheumatology, Allergy and Immunology, TTSH and Department of Rheumatology & Immunology, SGH.
  4. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically NUS Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Firmenich Prize

The Firmenich Prize was first established in 2003 as a Faculty-level prize and it was re-classified as a University-level prize in 2014. In 2019, Firmenich Asia Pte Ltd has agreed to extend the duration of the prize by a further period of 5 years from AY2019/2020 until AY2023/2024.

The prize is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, a cash prize of S$3,000 will be awarded to the best Honours student majoring in Food Science and Technology from the Department of Food Science and Technology, Faculty of Science.
  2. The prize will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate or its nominee.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Fission Medal and Prize

In 2012, Fission Group donated a sum of S$15,000 to award a gold medal and cash prize of S$1,250 in each academic year. The award will be given out from the academic year AY2011/2012.

The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. One medal and prize to be awarded to an undergraduate who has completed the final year of studies in the Department of Real Estate, and obtained (a) the highest mark in RE2701 Urban Planning; and (b) at least an Honours (Distinction) for the degree of Bachelor of Science (Real Estate).
  2. The medal will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulations.

 

Foo Swee Cheng Academic Excellence Award in Safety, Health and Environmental Technology

In 2021, the Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Department raised funds through MSc SHE Alumni, family, friends, and colleagues of A/P Foo Swee Cheng. As of 22 March 2022, $21,230 was raised. The expendable sum will be used to establish an award to encourage and recognize our postgraduate students in the Master of Science in Safety, Health and Environmental Technology (MSc SHE) degree program who have displayed excellence in academics.

The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below,
    1. a cash prize valued at $1,000 will be awarded to the best graduating MSc SHE student who has displayed academic excellence and outstanding achievements.
    2. a cash prize valued at $500 will be awarded to the second best graduating MSc SHE student who has displayed academic excellence and outstanding achievements.
  2. The prize will be awarded by the Board of Graduate Studies or its nominee.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. Recipients must meet a minimum GPA of 4.0.
  5. As there will be a graduating batch at the end of each semester, up to four awards may be made in the same academic year.
  6. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Forex Association of Singapore Prize

Donated in 1995 by the Forex Association of Singapore, a cash prize is awarded annually from the proceeds of a capital sum of $25,000. The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below, the cash prize is awarded to the most outstanding student in International Financial Management who has also excelled in the overall performance in the examination leading to either the degree of Bachelor of Business Administration or the degree of Bachelor of Business Administration with Honours.
  2. The cash prize will be subject to the availability of the distributable return from the capital sum.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. The prize will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies or its nominee.
  5. If in any year, in the opinion of the Board of Undergraduate Studies or its nominee, there are two or more candidates of equal merit, the prize quantum will be divided proportionally as determined by the available funds.
  6. This Gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Fraser & Neave Prize

Donated by Malayan Breweries and Fraser & Neave, the cash prize is awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $1,000 beginning in the academic year 1973-4.

  1. The prize is awarded annually by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the Board of Examiners to the top graduating student who has obtained the Bachelor of Science First or Second Class (Upper Division) Honours Degree in Life Sciences in the area of concentration of Biology, who is not awarded the Sawmillers' Association Gold Medal, the Wallace Prize, the Holttum Silver Medal or the Straits Times Bronze Medal.
  2. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  3. The prize which has a value of $50 will be in the form of cash.
  4. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Freda Paul Medical Excellence Prize

In 2020, the Estate of Dr Paul Freda Malliamalar donated $3,740,000 to establish a bursary and the Freda Paul Medical Excellence Prize.

The prize will be awarded annually to the top female undergraduate students at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine who have excelled academically in Paediatrics.

The award is governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 3 below,
    1. A cash prize of $1,000 will be awarded to the best female undergraduate student in Paediatrics in the Fourth Professional M.B.,B.S. Examination.
    2. A cash prize of $1,000 will be awarded to the best female undergraduate student in Paediatrics in the Final Professional M.B.,B.S. Examination.
    3. A cash prize of $750 will be awarded to the second best female undergraduate student in Paediatrics in the Fourth Professional M.B.,B.S. Examination.
    4. A cash prize of $750 will be awarded to the second best female undergraduate student in Paediatrics in the Final Professional M.B.,B.S. Examination.
  2. The prize will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies or its nominee.
  3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
  4. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.

 

Furama Medal and Prize

Donated in 1993 by Apollo Enterprises Ltd, a gold medal is awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $30,000. In 2008, the award was renamed “Furama Medal” to reflect the company’s new identity, and in 2022, a cash prize was added to complement the gold medal.

The award will be governed by the following conditions:

  1. Subject to rule 4 below, a gold medal and cash prize will be awarded to the best student specializing in Leadership and Human Capital Management who has excelled in the overall performance in the Bachelor of Business Administration Honours examination.
  2. The cash prize will be subject to the availability of the distributable return from the capital sum and after the cost of the medal.
  3. The medal and prize are awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies or its nominee.
  4. No award will be made unless there is candidate of sufficient merit.
  5. In the event of there being more than one candidate of sufficient merit, the Board of Examiners will take into consideration the performance of the candidates throughout the course of study.
  6. This Gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 7 on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulation.
