Overseas Student Exchange Programme Loan
The Overseas Student Exchange Programme (SEP) Loan is available to NUS Exchange Students.
Maximum of S$3,000 per semester depending on the monthly household per capita income# of the applicant’s family.
# Monthly household per capita income refers to the total gross monthly income of all those living in the household divided by the number of people in the household.
Undergraduate students who are selected to embark on SEP at an overseas Partner University for 1 or 2 semesters may apply.
Note: Recipients of the Science & Technology Undergraduate Scholarship are NOT eligible to apply for this loan. Undergraduate students reading the Concurrent Degree Programmes are not eligible for the loan once they are charged graduate tuition fee.
A guarantor is required. He or she must be a working Singapore Citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident, between 21 and 60 years old and is neither a bankrupt nor a party to another agreement.
There is a two-step process to apply for the SEP Loan.
- Apply for Financial Aid* here for the academic year of the SEP/Summer Programme at least 3 months before the programme’s departure date from Singapore.
- Download the SEP Loan Application Form and submit via the FAQ Portal at least 2 months before the programme’s departure date from Singapore.
* Undergraduate students who have already applied for Financial Aid for the relevant academic year do not need to apply again. Students who have not applied for Financial Aid may apply and upload their supporting documents on the Applicant Portal.
Higher Education Student Loan (HESL)
This Higher Education Student Loan (Overseas Student Programme (OSP)) is administered by the Global Relations Office (GRO) and is offered to all eligible NUS undergraduate students who are successful applicants of NUS-approved overseas programmes.
The HESL-OSP component provides up to S$12,000 to cover the cost of institution-approved overseas student programme. Students can only take up this loan once during the course of their undergraduate study. This loan helps students cover partial or all expenses incurred during their overseas stint.
