The Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship to Encourage Upgrading (LKY-STEP) Award was made possible by Mr Lee Kuan Yew, who donated sales proceeds from the autographed editions of Volume Two of his memoirs, to encourage upgrading and lifelong learning. The scholarship is presented to outstanding polytechnic graduates with good academic performance and co-curricular activities record, matriculating into full-time undergraduate degree programmes at the National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore Management University (SMU), Singapore University of Design and Technology (SUTD), Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT), and Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS).


  • Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents
  • Have strong leadership qualities and potential
  • Have good co-curricular activities record
  • Possess outstanding local Polytechnic Diploma (preferably Diploma with Merit)
  • Matriculating into a full-time undergraduate degree programme at NUS/ NTU/ SMU/ SUTD/ SIT/ SUSS in the year of application

  • S$3,500 one-time cash award
  • Bond-free scholarship

  • Scholarship recipients may concurrently hold other scholarships or bursaries.
  • Scholarship recipients who are unsuccessful in securing a concurrent scholarship will have their tuition fees (after MOE Tuition Grant) waived by their respective university.
  • The scholarship will be renewed every semester, provided the scholarship recipient maintains a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 3.50, or grades that are within the top 80% of their cohort for Dentistry, Law and Medicine scholarship recipients, and has good conduct.

Nanyang Technological University (NTU) is the Secretariat for LKY-STEP Award in AY2026/2027. Application period is from 11 May 2026 to 2 Jun 2026. Application details will be available soon.

Selection interviews will be held in June. To be considered for the scholarship, please ensure that you are available to attend the interview. Your application will be withdrawn if you are unable to attend any scheduled selection interview without valid reasons.

 

Only applicants shortlisted for an interview will be informed via e-mail in June. Applicants that are not shortlisted will not receive any e-mail communication.
