The NUS Performing & Visual Arts Scholarship is one of three awards under the Student Life Scholarships which recognise outstanding NUS undergraduates who excel beyond the classroom in Sports, Performing & Visual Arts (PVA), and Community Impact (CI, Mid-Term only). As awardees and ambassadors of student life, scholars are expected to exemplify NUS values of innovation, resilience, excellence, respect and integrity, champion student life and contribute meaningfully to campus and community. 

The NUS Performing & Visual Arts Scholarship is awarded to highly talented individuals who possess outstanding academic, performing and/or visual arts participation and representation records, who are committed to contributing actively to the NUS performing and/or visual arts scene. 

The NUS Performing & Visual Arts Scholarship is offered via two tracks: (i) Freshmen, for incoming students, and (ii) Mid-Term, for current undergraduate students. Details of the Mid-Term award can be found under the Student Life Scholarships at the Office of Student Affairs.

  • Be a Singapore Citizen
  • Demonstrate strong leadership potential and qualities
  • Possess good co-curricular activities records, particularly in performing and/or visual arts
  • Possess good Singapore-Cambridge GCE A Level, local polytechnic diploma, International Baccalaureate diploma, NUS High School diploma or equivalent qualifications
  • Be applying for admission to a full-time undergraduate degree programme at NUS. Limited scholarships may be available for Dentistry, Medicine and Law
  • Transfer applicants from local or overseas universities are not eligible for this scholarship

  • Subsidised tuition fees (after MOE Tuition Grant subsidy)
  • S$6,000 annual living allowance
  • S$5,550 annual accommodation allowance if scholar is staying on campus (Not applicable if scholarship holder enjoys partial/ full on-campus accommodation fee waiver)
  • Guaranteed Student Exchange Programme (SEP) placement with one of NUS overseas partner universities for one semester (not applicable for NUS Medicine and Dentistry undergraduate programmes)
  • Priority for on-campus accommodation is offered for the first two years of undergraduate study, subject to meeting the eligibility criteria for on-campus accommodation and submitting a complete hostel application during the first housing application window each year. For Year 1 scholars, this priority applies to Halls and Houses; for Year 2 scholars, it applies to Halls, Houses and Residences
  • Bond-free scholarship

  • The NUS Performing & Visual Arts Scholarship is awarded to freshmen pursuing a full-time undergraduate programme at NUS, excluding Music, and is tenable for the normal candidature period. The scholarship may be transferred to all programmes except Music.
  • Recipients of the scholarship may not concurrently hold any other scholarship, fellowship, bursary, grant, award or allowance without prior approval from the University.
  • The scholarship will be renewed every semester provided the scholar:
    • Displays good conduct
    • Maintains a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 3.5 or grades that are within the top 80% of their cohort for Dentistry, Medicine or Law scholarship recipients
    • Participates in at least one NUS Office of Student Affairs event per Academic Year (engagement dialogues, leadership programmes etc.)
    • Commits to active and meaningful contributions to the NUS performing and/or visual arts scene throughout their candidature by:
      • Actively pursuing training and development to enhance their artistic practice
      • Completing two of the following three:
        1. Leading and organising arts productions or activities on campus individually or as part of an NUS group, and/or
        2. Initiating project(s) that benefit a specific community through the arts and/or that fosters an appreciation of their artform amongst NUS students or the wider community, and/or
        3. Embarking on substantive artistic collaborations with artists and arts groups both within and/or outside of NUS.
      • The scholar will be restricted to a maximum of twelve (12) months of overseas programme(s) or internship(s) for the entire duration of his/her undergraduate programme.
      • If the scholar decides to withdraw from the University and/or terminate the scholarship prematurely, the University reserves the right to impose repayment of all scholarship monies disbursed to the scholarship holder.

  • Interested students need only submit one scholarship application to be considered for the NUS Performing & Visual Arts Scholarship, as well as other NUS Scholarships.
  • Applicants are required to submit the following:
    • Upload supporting documents such as co-curricular activities record, via the Applicant Portal.
    • Submit one Referee Recommendation Form online, to be completed and submitted separately by the applicant’s Junior College/Polytechnic/High School Principal or Tutor).

  • Applicants will be assessed for scholarship suitability based on the strength of their application and their performance in the NUS Performing & Visual Arts Scholarship Live Audition(s) and Interview(s), if shortlisted. 
  • Shortlisted for Portfolio Submission: Applicants shortlisted for Portfolio Submission will be informed via email. Details and instructions on the Portfolio preparation will also be made known to the shortlisted applicant through the e-mail. 
  • Shortlisted for Live Audition(s) and Interview(s): Applicants shortlisted for selection interview(s) will be informed via e-mail. Live Audition(s) and Interview(s) will be conducted from late-April onwards, and applicants will be informed of their scholarship application outcomes by late-May. To be considered for the scholarship, please ensure that you are available to attend the Live Audition(s) and Interview(s). Your scholarship application will be withdrawn if you are unable to attend any scheduled selection interview(s) without valid reasons. 
  • NUS reserves the right to not award any scholarship if there are no candidates of sufficient merit. The decision of the selection committee is final. Enquiries or disputes surrounding its decisions will not be entertained.
