English Placement Test (EPT)

Students in the undergraduate programme from the Yong Siew Toh Music Conservatory (YSTCM), who do not possess the necessary English language qualifications are required to sit for the English Placement Test (EPT) set by the Centre for English Language Communication (CELC). Please take note that a student can only sit for the EPT once.

The EPT for Academic Year 2022/2023 is scheduled as follows:

1. Date and time of the EPT 13 July 2022 (Wed):

  • Reporting time is 1.15 pm
  • Test time is 2 pm - 3.30pm
2. The EPT will be conducted in digital format using Zoom + Examplify. As the EPT will be conducted in digital format, students are required to attend the compulsory briefing session on 8 July 2022 (Fri) at 10 am.

For the briefing and the actual test, students are required to prepare:

  • a laptop for completing the paper using Examplify and
  • mobile phone for invigilation using Zoom video conferencing tool.

An iPad should not be used for the taking the EPT.
Your laptop and mobile phone should be fully charged or connected to a charging stationfor the whole duration of the test.

3. Preparation for the Briefing Session It is compulsory for students to attend at least one briefing session.
Students will NOT be allowed to sit for the EPT if they are absent from the briefing session.
Before the briefing session, please complete the following:

The briefing session will be conducted via Zoom. You will receive information on the Zoom briefing session upon successful registration. Please join the briefing session using your mobile phone.
The briefing slides should be downloaded onto your laptop as reference will be made to them during the briefing.

4. Assignment to EPT1 Session 1 or Session 2 You will receive an email on Friday 8 July 2022 (by 5 pm) to inform you of the test session that you will be assigned to and the Zoom meeting link and password to the session.

5. Sitting for the EPT test Students must report to their assigned group in Zoom at the respective reporting time.
Students will need to have their identification document with photo (e.g. Student Card, NRIC, Passport) for identity verification purpose before being allowed to sit for the test.
