On 22 October 2025, our Helixians were given the opportunity to step inside one of Singapore’s oldest places of worship, the Maghain Aboth Synagogue. Here are five things we gained from this exclusive experience:

  1. A glimpse into Jewish history. Maghain Aboth is the oldest synagogue in Southeast Asia still in use today.

  2. Maghain Aboth Synagogue is an architectural beauty. Its blend of Neo-Classical and colonial design reflects Singapore’s multicultural roots.

  3. We gained authentic insights about the Jewish faith and tradition. We learned about Jewish customs and rituals, including the significance of the Torah.

  4. A deepened understanding of the community. Our visit highlighted how Singapore’s Jewish community has shaped local history and how the faith has contributed to our nation.

  5. Appreciation for Singapore’s multicultural society. Beyond religion, the experience reminded us of the importance of respect, inclusivity, and cultural understanding.
