English Placement Test (EPT)

Students in the undergraduate programme from the Yong Siew Toh Music Conservatory (YSTCM), who do not possess the necessary English language qualifications are required to sit for the English Placement Test (EPT) set by the Centre for English Language Communication (CELC). Please take note that a student can only sit for the EPT once.

The EPT for Academic Year 2025/2026 is scheduled as follows:

 

1. Date and time of the EPT 6 August 2025 (Wednesday):

  • Reporting time is 1.15pm
  • Test time is 2pm - 3.30pm
  • Location: YST Recording Studio
2. The EPT will be conducted in digital format using Examplify. As the EPT will be conducted in digital format, students are required to attend the compulsory briefing session on 5 August 2025 (Tuesday) at 10am.

For the briefing and the actual test, students are required to prepare:

  • a laptop for completing the paper using Examplify

Please refer to the documents listed in Section 3 below for details.

An iPad should not be used for the taking the EPT.
Your laptop should be fully charged or connected to a charging station for the whole duration of the test.
3. Preparation for the Briefing Session It is compulsory for students to attend the EPT/Examplify briefing before they are allowed to take the EPT.

 

Before attending the briefing session, students must:

  • view the briefing slides on Examplify here;

(Access to the Examplify software will be granted after 5 August 2025.)

  • read the attached briefing document on Zoom Invigilation here;
  • complete this quiz which is based on information on Examplify and Zoom invigilation.
4. Sitting for the EPT test Students will need to have their identification document with photo (e.g. Student Card, NRIC, Passport) for identity verification purpose before being allowed to sit for the test.
