A research team, including Asst Prof Zoe Hildon from the NUS Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, examined patterns of antibiotic use among pet owners. The study revealed that three out of four pet owners in Singapore are unaware that antibiotic-resistant bacteria can be transmitted between humans and animals. The findings highlight the need for increased education and outreach – not only for pet owners but also for healthcare professionals such as vets.
