UROP comprises existing projects that are led by academic staff (i.e. lecturers and professors) as the Principal Investigator (PI) and hence projects are NOT initiated by students.
UROP is a 4 units course and DOES NOT include research assistant appointment.
RA based projects are different from a UROP project as UROP is read as a course and does not include paid appointment. Hence it cannot be claimed as a UROP.
Yes, if they have declared a 2nd major under FASS.
Yes, if they are counting the UROP towards their 2nd major requirements. If not, they must seek permission from their major department to count it towards their major. If the major department does not approve the UROP to be counted towards their major requirements, the students will not be able to enrol in the UROP.
Only projects published in our UROP list (under ‘list of topics’) for the upcoming semester are eligible to be counted as UROPs under FASS.

The UROP course is offered as a level 3000 course with the code xx3551.
UROP listing will be published in around mid-November for Semester 2 registration and around mid-May for Semester 1 registration.
Students are required to submit the application forms to the course host department before Round 1 of Coursereg. For topics offered by ARI or IPS, students are required to submit their applications to their major department.
The deadline for submitting the above documents is the end of March for Semester 2 claims and the end of October for Semester 1 claims. After the REx reimbursement is approved by the PVO Undergraduate Research Team, REx Fellows may proceed to submit their claims through the self-service system.
The deadline for claims will be second Friday of April for every Semester 2 claim and second Friday of November for every Semester 1 claim. This would allow sufficient time for students to submit their claims via the self-service system within their candidature.
