Associate Professor ZHANG Yongliang has been appointed Director of the LSI Immunology Programme, effective July 2025. He concurrently holds the position of NUSMed Immunology TRP Chair.
In 2002, Yongliang received his PhD from the National University of Singapore. Following two postdoctoral stints at the Department of Immunology, University of Washington, and the Department of Immunology, the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, Yongliang returned to NUS in 2009 as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Microbiology and the LSI Immunology Programme, NUS. In 2017, he achieved his Associate Professorship (with tenure).

His longstanding research interest lies in signal transduction pathways that regulate innate and adaptive immune responses, and how dysregulated signalling leads to pathological outcomes, such as inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, and cancer. In particular, his lab focuses on members of a protein family called dual specificity phosphatase (DUSP), also known as MAPK phosphatase (MKP), and the important roles they play in immunity and cancer development. His work on DUSP has been extensively published in Nature Communications, Cell Death & Differentiation, and PNAS.
