Event Details
Half of the global population live under conditions of high water stress for at least one month each year and water stress is expected to worsen with climate change and increasing demand. The growing scarcity is a critical challenge for businesses which depend on water. Agriculture alone accounts for about 70% of water withdrawals, while industrial activities are a major source of both consumption and pollution. Water stewardship must be a core part of every company’s sustainability strategy to ensure long-term resilience.
To explore this urgent issue, the Centre for Governance and Sustainability (CGS) at NUS Business School and Kering are hosting the workshop “Water Matters: Making Ripples in Corporate Sustainability”. The workshop seeks to promote the business case for water stewardship and highlight its critical importance for holistic sustainability strategies. It will share deep insights from CGS’s study on Corporate Water Stewardship: Strategies and Practices in Asia-Pacific, and facilitate dialogue on innovative ways in which businesses are incorporating water stewardship into their strategies and operations.
The session will include a keynote address by Ms Marie-Claire DAVEU, Chief Sustainability and Institutional Affairs Officer, Kering, followed by a presentation from CGS Director Professor Lawrence LOH, who will highlight key findings from CGS’s study. Kering will then present its water strategy. Rounding off the session will be a panel discussion featuring industry leaders who will discuss their experiences in water stewardship.
