Event Details

Associate Professor Mary Chong’s research centers on Maternal and Child Health, with a particular focus on diet and lifestyle behaviours across the life course. She leads the nutrition domain for the mother-offspring cohort studies in Singapore. Her current work investigates the behavioural determinants of health in children and adolescents and conducts interventions to promote healthy lifestyle behaviours. Regionally, her projects include evaluating multi-sectoral approaches to reduce malnutrition, developing nutrition guidelines for young children in Lao PDR and implementing a community-based nutrition intervention for tuberculosis patients in Cambodia.

In this seminar, Assoc Prof Mary Chong will reflect on how life course nutrition research has evolved over the past two decades, from its traditional focus on pregnancy and early childhood to a broader understanding of how nutritional and environmental exposures across the lifespan influence health outcomes, disease risk, and health equity across generations. She will discuss emerging directions in the field, the challenges of conducting long-term cohort studies and translating evidence into practical dietary guidance, and highlight local initiatives that support health and nutrition across different stages of the life course.
