I joined NUS Nursing in 2009 and have been privileged to grow alongside the School and its students. I believe meaningful learning goes beyond knowledge acquisition. It should inspire curiosity, build confidence, and empower learners to apply knowledge meaningfully in practice. I also believe learning requires deep and systematic design, with clear alignment among learning objectives, learning activities, assessment, and intended outcomes. Every step should have a meaningful purpose, guiding students to understand how and why they are learning, engage actively, and enjoy the learning journey. My goal is to create purposeful, engaging, and authentic experiences that inspire lifelong learning.
Dr. Chen Hui-Chen is a Senior Lecturer at NUS Nursing and Programme Director for the Bachelor of Science (Nursing Practice) Year 3 programme. She holds a Bachelor of Nursing and Master of Nursing from the University of Sydney and a PhD from NUS. Her teaching strengths and interests include blended and integrative learning, simulation-based education, gamification, team-based learning, formative assessment, meaningful feedback and reflection, health coaching, course redesign, and AI-informed pedagogy. As a Fellow of the NUS Teaching Academy and CTLT Affiliate, she contributes to faculty development through educational workshops and consultations, both locally and internationally. Her educational innovations and scholarship have been recognised through teaching awards, educational grants, and publications. She has also received research funding, including a Clinician Scientist Grant award, to advance clinical practice and patient outcomes. As a Resident Fellow at RC4 since 2022, she promotes learning beyond the classroom through various activities and community engagement, interdisciplinary interaction, and meaningful service-learning opportunities, particularly in the context of Singapore’s ageing society.
Being part of the NUS Teaching Academy provides an exciting opportunity to learn, collaborate, and contribute to a vibrant community of educational practice and scholarship. I hope to contribute actively to adult learning initiatives and explore how we can enhance teaching and learning in an increasingly AI-enabled educational landscape. Through Adult Learning with AI Pedagogy, I aim to support educators in designing engaging, flexible, and authentic learning experiences that empower learners to use AI thoughtfully while retaining strong human judgement. In particular, I hope to strengthen learners’ ability to critically evaluate the quality, accuracy, relevance, and ethical implications of AI-generated content, ensuring that AI enhances rather than replaces human thinking, expertise, and decision-making.
