Academic Libraries for the Present and Future

We are committed to practices that create and maintain access to precious knowledge resources which will serve our NUS community and the global community beyond, for generations to come. Our sustainability focus areas are developed in line with the Singapore Green Plan 2030 and the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals to advance sustainable development.

We aim to be an academic library that accelerates sustainability in teaching, learning, and research, by connecting our communities with a curated blend of information, knowledge networks, and platforms. We want to empower our communities with relevant and current information as well as access to history and culture through our unique collections, so they can thrive in their research while growing their sense of connectedness to the global community.

NUS Libraries aspires to empower our community through sustainable resources, innovations, and partnerships, advancing education and research while preserving heritage and reducing environmental impact for a resilient future. In a world facing unprecedented environmental and societal challenges, we champion information access, responsible stewardship of knowledge and action for sustainability.

We implement sustainable green initiatives, leveraging our collections and expertise in technology platforms, partnering with our communities to create meaningful impact on our environment.

Green Resources

As an academic library, we place heavy emphasis on the preservation of documentary cultural heritage, making accessible more resources on sustainability, as well as the co-creation of cultural heritage outputs that will enhance our community's awareness of sustainability issues and generate more scholarship in support of that aim.

Green Digital and Innovation

We are committed to the responsible and judicious use of technology to augment and enhance our sustainability efforts, from helping reduce the carbon footprint of field trips, to making wayfinding more accessible.

Our sustainability efforts cut across a wide span of disciplines and practices, from collections development to spatial design, placemaking, and digital innovations. These efforts are the natural expression of our commitment to providing access to information, while raising awareness of environmental and cultural sustainability. The following is a brief sampling of the various sustainability initiatives that we're most proud of.
