A new scholarship from Temasek will support Singaporean PhD students at NUS Graduate School to pursue deep expertise in STEM and build careers that matter.

Singapore’s next breakthroughs in emerging sectors such as the green economy, artificial intelligence, and precision medicine will not come from chance. They will come from researchers given the time, resources and support to go deep.

Recognising the need to build up local talent in future growth sectors, Temasek has established the Temasek Graduate Scholarship at NUS Graduate School (NUSGS), reaffirming its commitment to cultivate Singapore’s next generation of experts in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). This contribution is part of T-Spring, Temasek’s S$150 million community gift announced in 2024 to mark its 50th anniversary, advancing capabilities to build a more resilient and future-ready workforce in Singapore.

Freedom to Focus

The Temasek Graduate Scholarship will be awarded to three Singaporean PhD students at NUSGS, supporting their academic journeys throughout their course of study. By helping to cover living expenses and schooling needs, the Scholarship enables recipients to devote their full attention to pursuing meaningful STEM research during their PhD programme.

This Scholarship reflects Temasek’s commitment to helping Singapore build a resilient and future-ready workforce for generations to come, in line with their purpose statement “So Every Generation Prospers”.

“We are deeply grateful for Temasek’s long-standing partnership and this meaningful gift. Access to postgraduate education should be determined by a student’s ability and passion, not their financial means,” said Professor Jessica Pan, Vice Provost (Graduate Education) and Dean, NUS Graduate School. “We are pleased to welcome the Temasek Graduate Scholarship to the School and look forward to the scholars it will support, and to their contributions to Singapore and beyond.”

More Than a Scholarship

For a Temasek Graduate Scholar, the support goes well beyond the stipend. Scholars will have opportunities to be connected to Temasek’s network of portfolio companies and mentors, providing a link between their research and the industries where they can make a real difference.

Beyond academic achievement, access to this network also allows Scholars to build meaningful careers at the forefront of Singapore’s STEM ecosystem.

“The Temasek Graduate Scholarship, introduced under T‑Spring, reflects our commitment to strengthening Singapore’s STEM talent pipeline,” said Shaun Seow, Head of Community Stewardship at Temasek . “By equipping the next generation with the skills and capabilities to innovate and lead, we aim to support a future‑ready Singapore.”

For NUS Graduate School, this partnership is a reminder of what becomes possible when ambition is matched with generosity. Gifts like this Scholarship propel bright young minds to ask the questions that matter, pursue discoveries that others have not yet imagined and help shape Singapore’s future in STEM.
