In-House Programmes
A NUS staff member’s learning journey begins from the day they join the University. Through a structured learning roadmap, staff are supported in building capabilities, benchmarking their progress, and achieving key career milestones at different stages of their professional journey. Staff can look forward to a comprehensive range of development opportunities, including onboarding programmes, face-to-face workshops, e-learning courses, experiential learning opportunities, and leadership development programmes. These learning opportunities are designed to support continuous growth, lifelong learning, and the development of future-ready capabilities across the University.
One of the ways NUS advances this commitment is through the Data Literacy Skills Recognition Scheme (SRS) - a first-of-its-kind workforce capability building initiative in Singapore that formally recognises the application of data analytics and AI competencies in the workplace. The Scheme provides eligible staff with a structured pathway to develop practical data and AI capabilities through workplace-based applications and stackable micro-credentials leading to the NUS Master of Science in Applied Data Science (MSc ADS). Aligned with National Skills Frameworks, the Scheme further enables staff to work towards secondary job titles such as Associate Data Scientist and Data Scientist, while contributing to digital transformation and innovation across the University.
External Development
Eligible staff may be sponsored by the University to attend external programs, both locally and overseas. These programs come in many forms, including courses, conferences, study visits, e-learning, and more. These opportunities enable staff to build their networks, gain insights from top industry practitioners, and acquire skill sets that support the University's objectives and their own individual needs.
In addition to management-initiated programs, staff have a great deal of autonomy in deciding on their own tailored learning paths and programs.
Learning Sponsorships
Talent is a key foundation of the NUS strategy. NUS offers several types of bond-free learning sponsorships to eligible staff, namely, academic certifications, professional certifications, or formal qualification programmes, which are job relevant and in support of the University’s objectives. The sponsorships include the Skills Transformation Fund, Sponsorship for NUS Masters, and Sponsorship for Non-NUS Masters Programmes and Other Courses.
In general, staff seeking to apply for these sponsorships must fulfil at least 2 years of service in NUS and meet certain performance ratings, amongst other criteria.
