When <\/span>her<\/span> picnic <\/span>plans<\/span> at<\/span> Marina Barrage<\/span> fell through<\/span>,<\/span> Tri<\/span>cia<\/span> GOH, an NUS <\/span>ComLink<\/span> befriender, <\/span>quickly<\/span> turn<\/span>ed<\/span> the <\/span>situation<\/span> into <\/span>an engaging<\/span> hands-on<\/span> cooking session<\/span> for the children.<\/span> This ability to transform<\/span> a setback into a rewarding <\/span>experience<\/span> exemplifies<\/span> the spirit of community engagement<\/span> \u2013 <\/span>adapting to challenges while <\/span>nurturing<\/span> growth and connection.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Tri<\/span>cia<\/span> introduced<\/span> the children <\/span>to<\/span> the art of <\/span>making<\/span> pasta<\/span> \u2013 a simple<\/span>, <\/span>versatile<\/span>, and delicious<\/span> dish<\/span> \u2013 while also teaching them essential kitchen skills<\/span>. <\/span>To<\/span> keep<\/span> the <\/span>activity<\/span> interesting<\/span> and interactive<\/span>, she <\/span>created<\/span> a <\/span>fun <\/span>activity sheet <\/span>that <\/span>had<\/span> the<\/span> children<\/span> fill in the blanks, <\/span>match ingredients and<\/span> work together to<\/span> prepare the meal<\/span> (see chart).<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Though initially restless, the children quickly became immersed in the cooking process once clear expectations were set. As they boiled water, chopped garlic, cooked pasta, and fried meatballs (see photo), they soon realised the amount of effort that had to go into cooking. One child exclaimed, “Wow, cooking is actually so difficult!” This realisation deepened their appreciation of their mother\u2019s daily efforts, marking a heartwarming moment of the day.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

By stepping out of their comfort zone, the children learned more than just how to cook. They discovered teamwork, adaptability, and gratitude for the small, everyday contributions their loved ones make.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
