Designed as a more coherent delivery of general education, the UTCP emphasises multidisciplinary learning and active small-group learning. Students from different disciplines, cultures, and nationalities are put together in each class, which helps them to assimilate and synthesise cross-disciplinary knowledge, facilitating multi-perspectival thinking.<\/p>\n<p>Through its multidisciplinary curriculum, the UTCP will help students develop effective communications and strong writing skills, critical thinking skills, and intellectual breadth and rigour to tackle the complex, inter-related challenges confronting the world today. A host of informal learning activities, such as talks by distinguished visitors, as well as social and sporting activities, complements the formal curriculum.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"#\" id=\"fl-accordion--label-1\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-controls=\"fl-accordion--panel-1\">Admission Requirements<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"#\" id=\"fl-accordion--icon-1\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-controls=\"fl-accordion--panel-1\"><i>Expand<\/i><\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>Incoming freshmen may apply for the UTCP concurrently with or after their NUS application. Applicants are required to go through a stringent selection process and selected applicants will be offered admission to the UTCP, on the condition that they have accepted an offer to pursue an undergraduate degree programme in NUS.<\/p>\n<p>Interested applicants should submit an online application via the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/myaces.nus.edu.sg\/prjrca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Joint Residential College Application System<\/a> when application opens in March every year. Applicants will be assessed based on their essay(s) submission and interview, in addition to their academic achievements and co-curricular experiences.<\/p>\n<p>In your application you may indicate your preference, if any, for either College of Alice &amp; Peter Tan, Residential College 4 or Tembusu College, but your eventual placement (if selected) may be different, subject to available vacancies.<\/p>\n<p>Only one application may be submitted per Academic Year.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"#\" id=\"fl-accordion--label-2\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-controls=\"fl-accordion--panel-2\">Programme Requirements<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"#\" id=\"fl-accordion--icon-2\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-controls=\"fl-accordion--panel-2\"><i>Expand<\/i><\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>For Cohort AY2021\/2022 onwards:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Incoming Freshmen admitted to the UTCP will be offered a two-year residency in either <a href=\"http:\/\/capt.nus.edu.sg\/\">College of Alice &amp; Peter Tan<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/rc4.nus.edu.sg\/\">Residential College 4<\/a>\u00a0or\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/tembusu.nus.edu.sg\/\">Tembusu College<\/a>, during which you should complete the\u00a0UTCP curriculum\u00a0comprising\u00a0<u>five courses<\/u>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A Junior Seminar,<\/li>\n<li>An Ideas &amp; Exposition course,<\/li>\n<li>Two Senior Seminars, and<\/li>\n<li>A Data Literacy or Digital Literacy Pillar course, taken according to your faculty\/degree programme requirements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For students from Law, Medicine, Dentistry and selected programmes with curricular constraints (e.g. Nursing, Pharmacy, Music, Architecture, Industrial Design and Joint Degree Programmes), an academic pathway is tailored for you to still read courses with your College as part of your College experience.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"#\" id=\"fl-accordion--label-3\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-controls=\"fl-accordion--panel-3\">UTCP and Fulfilment of Graduation Requirements<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"#\" id=\"fl-accordion--icon-3\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-controls=\"fl-accordion--panel-3\"><i>Expand<\/i><\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>For Cohort AY2021\/2022 onwards:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With effect from AY2021\/2022, students from faculties in the course system are required to complete six General Education (GE) courses under the enhanced GE curriculum (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nus.edu.sg\/registrar\/academic-information-policies\/undergraduate-students\/general-education\/for-students-admitted-from-AY2021-22\">https:\/\/www.nus.edu.sg\/registrar\/academic-information-policies\/undergraduate-students\/general-education\/for-students-admitted-from-AY2021-22<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>UTCP students who read the four UTCP courses (a Junior Seminar, an Ideas &amp; Exposition course and two Senior Seminars) will fulfil the requirements of the following four GE pillars:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cultures and Connections<\/li>\n<li>Critique and Expression<\/li>\n<li>Singapore Studies<\/li>\n<li>Communities and Engagement<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Data Literacy and Digital Literacy pillars will not be offered by the RCs and UTCP students will need read these pillars with their faculties to complete the GE requirements.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For UTCP students from NUS College of Humanities and Sciences (CHS)<\/strong> who read the four UTCP courses (a Junior Seminar, an Ideas &amp; Exposition course and two Senior Seminars), you will be exempted from the following four CHS Common Curriculum Courses marked with &#8216;X&#8217; in the table below. Effective from the AY2019\/20 cohort onwards, FOE students who have read a RC4 Junior Seminar (UTC1702x) will be exempted from the IE2141 graduation requirement.
