{"id":825,"date":"2021-02-24T09:30:28","date_gmt":"2021-02-24T01:30:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/qat-nus.nus.edu.sg\/nusbulletin\/ay202122\/?page_id=825"},"modified":"2023-09-18T14:01:08","modified_gmt":"2023-09-18T06:01:08","slug":"academic-calendar","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.nus.edu.sg\/nusbulletin\/ay202324\/general-information\/academic-calendar\/","title":{"rendered":"Academic Calendar"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2>\n\t\tGeneral Information\n\t<\/h2>\n<h3>\n\t\tAcademic Calendar\n\t<\/h3>\n\t<p>The standard academic calendar*, with effect from AY2020\/21, will have the following structure:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It consists of two semesters and a special term.<\/li>\n<li>Each regular semester includes 13 weeks of instruction and 2 weeks of end-of-semester examinations.<\/li>\n<li>There are two consecutive mini-semesters in each regular semester. The first mini-semester (Mini-semester A) comprises 6 weeks of instruction, 1-week break (Reading Week) and 1 week of examinations. The second mini-semester (Mini-Semester B) comprises of 6 weeks of instruction, 1-week break (Reading Week) and 2 weeks of examinations (which is the same period as the end-of-semester examinations).<\/li>\n<li>Special term takes place during the Semester 2 vacation period. It comprises of two parts, each of which lasts 6 weeks and is inclusive of an examination period.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The table below presents the basic chronological structure of the two main semesters, with 2 mini-semesters within each regular semester, in any academic year.<\/p>\n<img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Academic Calendar\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nus.edu.sg\/registrar\/images\/info\/default-album\/acadcalendar.png\" alt=\"Academic Calendar\" data-displaymode=\"Original\" \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>*\u00a0The Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and the Faculty of Dentistry operate on a slightly different academic calendar structure.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><sup>1\u00a0<\/sup>Commences on first Monday of August each year.<\/em><\/p>\n<em><sup>2\u00a0<\/sup>For Semester 1 and mini-semester 1A, this starts in the week immediately following Orientation Week.<br \/>\nFor Semester 2 and mini-semester 2A, this commences on the second Monday of January each year.<br \/>\nThe University may start Semester 2 on the third Monday of January as deemed necessary in some years to maintain a 5-week vacation in December\/January.<br \/>\nFor mini-semester B, this starts in the week following examination week of preceding mini-semester A.\u00a0<\/em>\n<p><em><sup>3\u00a0<\/sup>From Saturday to the following Sunday<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>From Saturday of the final week of the preceding Instructional Period to Friday of the following week.<\/em><\/p>\n<em><sup>5\u00a0<\/sup>For Regular Semester and mini-semester B, a 2-week period that starts from the Saturday immediately following Reading Week and ends on Saturday.<br \/>\nFor mini-semester A,1-week period from Monday to Saturday.<\/em>\n<em><sup>6\u00a0<\/sup>For Semester 1, this is during December to early January.<br \/>\nFor Semester 2, this goes from May through July.
