{"id":353,"date":"2021-01-12T17:27:47","date_gmt":"2021-01-12T09:27:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/qat-nus.nus.edu.sg\/nusbulletin\/ay202122\/?page_id=353"},"modified":"2021-06-09T14:45:31","modified_gmt":"2021-06-09T06:45:31","slug":"master-of-music-mmus","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.nus.edu.sg\/nusbulletin\/ay202223\/programmes\/yong-siew-toh-conservatory-of-music\/graduate-education\/master-of-music-mmus\/","title":{"rendered":"Master of Music (MMus)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>\n\t\tYong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music\n\t<\/h2>\n<h3>\n\t\tMaster of Music (MMus)\n\t<\/h3>\n\t\t\t<a href=\"#\" id=\"fl-accordion--label-0\">Overview<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"#\" id=\"fl-accordion--icon-0\"><i>Expand<\/i><\/a>\n\t\t<p><strong>Master of Music (MMus)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Conservatory offers the Master of Music (MMus) degree, with particular specialisations in three main areas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Instrumental (orchestral instruments and piano)<\/li>\n<li>Conducting<\/li>\n<li>Composition<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The MMus is a two-year full-time programme designed for those who have just completed a qualifying Bachelor of Music or appropriate university-level studies (in Singapore or overseas) and wish to advance their professional studies in music at YST.<\/p>\n<p>YST\u2019s MMus programme seeks to promote higher-level music study in the individual\u2019s Major area, develop instrument-specific as well as group pedagogy capacities that are relevant in Singaporean and international music education communities, and facilitate professional learning that is needed for success in the music industry.<\/p>\n\t\t\t<a href=\"#\" id=\"fl-accordion--label-1\">Programme Structure<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"#\" id=\"fl-accordion--icon-1\"><i>Expand<\/i><\/a>\n\t\t<p>Successful completion of the Master of Music degree includes the completion of\u00a0<strong>80 MCs<\/strong>, with a minimum Cumulative Average Point (CAP) of 3.00.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Major Study (32 MCs) \u2013\u00a0<\/strong><em>4 modules x 8 MCs per module; 1 module per semester<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>Ensemble\/Composition Activities (16 MCs) \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0<em>4 modules x 4 MCs per module; 1 module per semester<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>Professional Development Electives (32 MCs)<\/strong> \u2013\u00a0<em>8 modules x 4 MCs per module; 2 modules per semester<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Students are expected to maintain a minimum CAP of 3.00 during their enrolment in the MMus degree. To continue in the MMus programme, a student may not have: 1) CAP below 3.00 (but greater than or equal to 2.50) for three consecutive semesters; or 2) CAP below 2.50 for two consecutive semesters.<\/p>\n<p>Students who have completed either the BMus at YST or an approved Bachelor of Music at an accredited institution of higher education; and who have completed their undergraduate degree with a CAP or equivalent of 3.50 or higher, may be credited up to 20 MCs towards the first semester of the MMus degree. These students will be required to complete 60 MCs in approved modules over three semesters, successfully perform all juries and recitals, and maintain a minimum CAP of 3.00 in their MMus degree.<\/p>\n\t\t\t<a href=\"#\" id=\"fl-accordion--label-2\">Examination\/Assessment\t<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"#\" id=\"fl-accordion--icon-2\"><i>Expand<\/i><\/a>\n\t\t<p>The MMus degree will take advantage of continuing assessment in the performance, composition and pedagogical\/professional development components of the curriculum. For the performance\/composition component, each student will be assigned a major study teacher in their relevant performance\/composition study area and will meet on a one-on-one basis at least once weekly during the course.
