About the Speakers
Joseph Deng
Joseph Deng is the Head of Business Development at Asia Pacific Air Quality Group (part of Envea Group), where he leads project development and partnerships for scientific research. Joseph has over a decade of experience specialising into environmental monitoring solutions and consultancy projects for industries in the Asia Pacific region. He has also worked in the Singapore government, where he focused on policies and knowledge partnerships on urban sustainability and climate change adaptation.
Joonas Vanhanen
Joonas Vanhanen is the R&D Director and co-founder of Airmodus Ltd (now part of Envea Group). He defended his PhD at the University of Helsinki focusing on new instrument development for detection of freshly formed aerosol particles in the atmosphere. Before Airmodus, he worked as a research scientist at the University of Helsinki as well as at the Finnish Meteorological Institute.
Abstract
Across Europe, cities are adopting new approaches to monitor and manage air pollution, with special attention to ultrafine particles (UFPs), the smallest and potentially most harmful airborne particles. Within the EU-funded Net4Cities project, 24 Condensation Particle Counters (CPCs) have been deployed across 11 cities to support long-term UFP measurements.
Envea-Airmodus participated into Net4Cities as a consortium partner and developed a new Condensation Particle Counter using propylene glycol, new odorless working fluid. The project balanced scientific accuracy with practicality through high-quality data collection while minimizing operational complexity, downtime and calibration costs.
This presentation shares European UFP campaign experience for urban hotspots that are highly relevant for rapidly urbanising regions in the Monsoon Asia region.
