GYSS 2026 visit to NERI

Participants in the 2026 cohort of the Global Young Scientists Summit (GYSS) visited NERI on January 5, 2026, and were warmly hosted by NERI’s Director, Assoc Prof Sanjay Swarup. They toured NERI’s analytical facilities, experiencing the end-to-end workflow and seeing how shared infrastructure accelerates collaboration and transforms experimental data into decision-ready evidence.

NERI researchers presented featured projects spanning: science-based restoration of carbon-rich tropical peatlands; electrochemical advanced oxidation for greener industrial wastewater treatment; amphibious microneedles for precision plant bioengineering on land and underwater; and microwave-driven conversion of food waste into algal protein and fuel.

Thank you to the GYSS participants for insightful discussions during the visit. Heartfelt thanks to the NUS team who led the sessions: Ms. Xu Yanfang; Assoc. Prof. Sanjay Swarup; Dr. Abhishek Gupta; Assoc. Prof. Olivier Lefebvre; Dr. Orlando Garcia Rodriguez; Asst. Prof. Tedrick Thomas Salim Lew; Dr. Shen Di; Asst. Prof. Iris Yu; and Li Zhuo.

We invite collaboration on exploratory studies, pilot deployments, data sharing, and researcher exchanges to scale impact.
