\nWhat are your present research interests?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

My main research interest is mass spectrometry-based lipidomics. Our team develops methods for qualitative and quantitative analysis of complex lipid profiles as a readout of biochemical processes.<\/p>\n

\nDo you have a distinctive viewpoint to your research?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The field of mass spectrometry-based lipidomics has now reach a point where translation to clinical applications is around the corner. In this context, we must strive to 1) educate the community as to what lipidomics can and cannot to, 2) develop ever better analytics, and 3) establish widely accepted guidelines for validation and reproducibility.<\/p>\n

\nWhat do you see as your future research directions?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

After working for many years in all types of model organisms, we now work more and more with clinicians, in view of translating our findings into applications of societal and economic value. Meanwhile we will continue to support basic research in lipidomics.<\/p>\n

Does your laboratory have a particularly strong research expertise?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

We have a strong expertise in targeted quantitative analysis of various classes of lipids (glycerolipids, phosphoglycerolipids, sphingolipids, fatty acids, sterols and derivatives) in a variety of tissues (plants, bacteria, yeast, animal models, and human).<\/p>\n
