The Health Promotion Board recommends 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity per week for adults to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Walking is thus a good form of exercise to work towards this.

The University Health Centre (UHC) Wellness division officially initiated the feetNUS Walking Club in March 2011 to encourage staff to lead a healthy and active lifestyle. Since its launch, an average of 10 to 20 members would meet every Thursday at 6.30pm at the UHC car park to participate in the hour-long walking session.

The routes taken are scenic, refreshing and they are all within the NUS Kent Ridge campus. Typically, a route can take participants from the UHC to Yusof Ishak House, Centre for Development of Teaching and Learning, Kent Ridge Road, National University Hospital and then back to UHC.

What is PAR-Q?

PAR-Q stands for Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire. It is designed for individuals to find out more about their physical ability before engaging in any physical activity. It helps an individual to assess oneself if they are fit for the activity at that particular moment.

It only takes approximately 3 minutes to fill up the questionnaire. It is an easy and convenient way to do some self-assessment before any activity.

The PAR-Q is designed for and more applicable for users age 15 to 69 years old. Should you fall below 15 years old, caregiver should provide appropriate advice. If you are above 69 years old, you should consult your doctor and seek his advice and clearance before participating in any form of exercise and activity.
