01. What is couple counselling?
Couple counselling is offered to matriculated students and their partners (who may or
may not be enrolled at NUS) who may be experiencing a loss of understanding and
commitment in their relationship. The aim of couple counselling is to help partners
communicate their issues in a manner where both parties feel heard and understood.
With more understanding from both partners about the conflict in their relationship, the
counselling staff will explore with them possible solutions.
02. Can I trust that couple counselling will be confidential?
Similar to individual counselling, CPS maintains strict confidentiality regarding all
information shared by clients except in cases of imminent threat to life or a court order.
03. Who would be our counsellor/psychologist?
Staff trained and with experience in couple / family therapy will be assigned to provide
such counselling.
04. What can I expect couple counselling to be like?
Students should seek couple counselling if they want to improve the relationship and
stay with their partners. If one party has already decided to leave the relationship,
couple counselling is not a way to “save” the relationship.
Couple counselling will also not be offered for relationships where there is on-going
violence or abuse. Clients will be encouraged to seek individual counselling at CPS
should they be NUS students.
05. How many sessions can I have?
The number of sessions is similar to that of individual counselling.
