Planning Approval Policy

The purpose of having policy and procedure, forms a guide for NUS faculties and staffs to be aligned with the University objectives in space use. It allows new staff to be acquainted to the structure and practices which aims to benefit the entire University.

The Planning Approval Policy applies to all Faculty coordinator & Project manager who are in charge of renovation, addition & alteration (A&A) and capital projects within NUS campus.

  • Faculties should have the Dean’s approval before engaging Office of Estate and Development (OED).
  • Procurement of construction services shall be routed through OED for approval.
  • Changes to As-built plans have to be submitted to Space Planning and Management (SPM), Office of the Vice President (Campus Infrastructure).
  • Faculty coordinator & Project manager should ensure space guidelines/norms are closely adhered to and shall raise any inconsistency to SPM.
  • For any new building/renovation work, current space norms will be applied.
  • Prior consultation with Physical Planning and Management (PPM) is required, if the proposed work involves
    1) Any new/additional land area beyond the existing building boundary
    or
    2) Any commercial area which is existing or proposed.
