RESEARCH INTERESTS
- Water reclamation and desalination focusing on fouling in membrane processes
- Development of novel membrane processes and hybrid system for water reuse and desalination
- Biological processes for wastewater treatment
- Energy reduction and recovery from waste and wastewater
RESEARCH ACHIEVEMENTS
- Invented a novel membrane incorporating nanotubes that enhances forward osmosis productivity and a US patent was filed
- Determined the contributing factors to membrane fouling that significantly impacted the operations of submerged membrane bioreactors for wastewater treatment
- Optimized a microbial fuel cell system capable of producing electricity directly from wastewater and monitoring toxicity in wastewater
- Secured generous competitive research funding from governments and industry of over S$9 million over the past 4 years
