RESEARCH INTERESTS
- Nanoelectronics: Solid-state physics, device physics, nanoscale transistors, strained transistors
- Advanced semiconductor process technologies, and new materials for semiconductor manufacturing
RESEARCH ACHIEVEMENTS
- Prolific inventor with more than 300 patent applications covering a wide range of advanced semiconductor processes and devices that are deployed in the manufacturing of integrated circuits. He is an inventor with 130 issued patents, including 64 US patents
- Founded a world-leading research group at NUS, with multiple breakthroughs in nanoscale transistor technologies
- Advanced the frontiers of semiconductor technology through use of new materials and strain engineering techniques in transistors
- Widely credited and known in the semiconductor industry for being the first in the world to demonstrate that a new material comprising silicon and carbon can be incorporated in transistors to enable electronics to operate at significantly higher speeds
