LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENTS
- Distinguished scholarship, academic leadership and sustained quality service to the University for 40 years, contributing significantly in service, research and teaching
- As Chairperson of the Working Committee (2001) for the integration of Life Sciences in the Faculties of Science and Medicine, she has contributed significantly to the development of the New Life Science Undergraduate curriculum. The Programme is now one of the most popular undergraduate courses in the University
- She continues to review the Undergraduate Life Science Curriculum as a member of the task force
- She has contributed significantly to recruitment of some of the world's best into the academia at the University
- Member of a Special Review Committee (2002) on appraisal of Professors
- Since 1996, she has been involved almost yearly in the annual appraisal of the academic and non-academic staff of the Department of Biochemistry
- Between 1996 and 2002, she was one of the two Faculty members of the Review Committee in the School of Medicine responsible for the appraisal of non-academic staff
- She continues to supervise graduate students, having successfully trained many Ph D, M Sc, honours and undergraduate students in the past
- Under her leadership, the undergraduate curriculum in Biochemistry Department was continually reviewed and revised in an effort to update and streamline the teaching of Life Science to the medical, dental and science students
- Ranked top by most cohorts of students in teaching throughout her teaching career
- Made an impact at both national and international levels, with an authorship of more than 100 international publications. Her Doctor of Science was awarded in recognition of her outstanding and independent research on drug metabolism. Her current research foci include human skin biology, cancer bioenergetics, sulfite-mediated neurotoxicity, drug-induced nephrotoxicity and mitochondrial functions
- Her more recent work on mitochondrial metabolism has been published in journals of high impact and she continues to be successful in competitive research grants
