- Sustained contributions in distinguished scholarship and
conspicuous services to the department, faculty, university
and the professional community over a period of more than
four decades
- Life-long contributions to the professional community
especially in the polymer chemistry circle, for example in
helping to shape the development of the Singapore National
Institute of Chemistry for nearly four decades
- Distinguished contributions to the research of polymers
(notably on polymer blends and composites) over
three decades with nearly 300 international publications
and 3,000 citations
- Over 110 presentations at national/regional/
international conferences
- Co-inventor of two patents on heat and hot water resistant
polyurethane sealant
- Author of four book chapters, and currently preparing a
chapter on fullerene-end-capped polymers for a book
entitled Fullerene polymers: synthesis and properties to
be published by Wiley VCH
- Collaborative research with colleagues at Institute of
Materials Research and Engineering, and Departments of
Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Bioengineering,
Physics, and Building, and also with researchers in USA,
Italy and Hong Kong
- Regular reviewer of manuscripts submitted to over 35
international journals such as Advanced Functional
Materials, Biomacromolecules, Carbon, Chemistry of
Materials, Chemical Reviews, Composite Science and
Technology, Journal of the American Chemical Society,
Journal of Applied Polymer Science, Journal of Nanoscience
and Nanotechnology, Langmuir, Macromolecular Chemistry
and Physics, Macromolecular Rapid Communications,
Macromolecules, and Polymer
