Teaching Aspirations

(a) To find good approaches for teaching sound statistical practice. (b) To encourage colleagues to think about the analogue of (a) in their respective disciplines.


Yap Von Bing has two degrees from NUS: B.Sc. (Hons) in Mathematics (1996) and an M.Sc. in Applied Mathematics (1997, supervised by Dr Goh Say Song).  He got a Ph.D. in Statistics from the University of California in 2002.  After a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California, he joined the Department of Statistics and Applied Probability in 2004.  His main interest is applied statistics: the interface between statistical theory and science, especially on molecular evolution, comparative genomics and ecology.  He enjoys talking about mathematics, statistics and science with anyone age 8 to 88.
