To understand Chinese development, or why China could sustain development in the face of the Asia economic crisis, we need first to gain a deep appreciation of the ongoing changes in China over the last twenty years. The purpose fo this book is to provide an in-depth analysis of some essential issues during the Deng Xiaoping reform as well as during the transition towards the post-Deng era. This volume discusses fundamental problems in three main areas: economic reform, political transition and foreign relations.
