Business-to-Business Electronic Commerce
Electronic Commerce Hotbed (ECH) programme was set up by the National Computer Board (NCB) in August 1996, to jumpstart the pervasive use of electronic commerce (EC) and to position Singapore as an EC hub. Subsequently, a high-level EC Policy Committee was formed to look into the policy and legal framework governing EC, and the NCB has spearheaded several EC initiatives aimed at enabling and accelerating the take-up of EC. These initiatives have resulted in Singapore having a comprehensive EC infrastructure that can be leveraged to conduct business online. The infrastructure for electronic commerce is already in place in Singapore to facilitate the conduct of electronic business on the Internet safely and reliably.
With the findings of a market study commissioned by the NCB generally pointing towards the readiness of Singapore Internet users for electronic shopping, the NCB is currently interested to assess the EC use in and readiness of selected sectors of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and larger corporations.
Objectives of this study are to evaluate the state of Business-to-Business EC in Singapore and to assess the EC readiness among SMEs and larger corporations in selected sectors. This project is conducted in 2 stages. First, telephone contact will be made with the respective decision maker to find out if the firm is a potential or current user of B2B EC, and then attempt to gain respondent's commitment to participate in the questionnaire via email or fax. Team members involved are namely, Dr Jochen Wirtz, A/P Wong Poh Kam, Ms Finna Wong, Mr Lim Sin Jin and Mr Adrain Miranda. The project was completed in February 1999.
