NUS Summer Program on
Economic and Enterprise Development in Singapore
13 – 24 July 2009

Overview
The 2009 Summer Program will be held from 13-24 July 2009. This 2-week program is open to all undergraduate students from universities in various parts of the world.
The program is an excellent opportunity for participants to learn about Singapore: how the smallest nation in Southeast Asia has progressed into a modern city-state and has grown into a thriving centre of commerce and industry with a GDP of US$161 billion in 2007. Participants will also get to experience the culture, interact with locals, understand how public policies are formulated, and gain insights on business practices in Singapore.
Program Outline
- Lectures conducted by lecturers from the National University of Singapore. Topics covered include:
- People, Politics and Culture of Singapore
- From Third World to First: Economic Development of Singapore
- Human Resources Development Strategy in Singapore
- Public Sector Management and Public Policy in Singapore
- Enterprise Development in Singapore
- Entrepreneurship Development in Singapore
- Entrepreneurial Venture Creation : From Idea to Business Plan
- Guest lectures by government representatives, business executives and professionals from local businesses
- Site visits to selected government departments, statutory boards, and business corporations in Singapore
- Dialogue sessions with government officials and entrepreneurs
- Group presentation
- Interaction with students from the National University of Singapore
The lectures will be conducted in English.
Program Fee
The Program fee is
- SGD$1,800 (for NUS partner universities)
- SGD$2,500 (for non NUS partner universities)
The fee is inclusive of the following
- All activities listed in the program outline
- Accommodation at student hostel (non air-con)
- Coach travel to site visits arranged by NUS
The Program fee does not cover airfare and airport taxes, travel insurance, visas, meals and personal expenses.
Payment is via bank draft , and is to be made payable to the “National University of Singapore”.
Accommodation
Students will stay on campus at the student residential hall, Prince George’s Park Residences (PGPR).
PGPR offers its residents an apartment lifestyle. Each cluster has its own kitchen, dining area, and bathroom facilities. The cluster lifestyle exposes students to independent living and also offers excellent opportunities for close interaction.
Points for personal telephone, television and computer linkage to the university’s network and the Internet, are provided in every room.
PGPR also houses a lecture theatre, seminar rooms, a multi-purpose hall, gymnasium, basketball and tennis courts, a jogging track, an exercise station, mini-supermarket, four food outlets and other service outlets. PGPR is conveniently linked to the Faculties and other key facilities on campus via a shuttle service.
Application Deadline
Interested students should approach your home university’s International Relations Office or equivalent offices for advice. Students must be nominated by the University before proceeding to apply. Please download the application form here and submit via email before 11 May 2009.
Please note that the following supporting documents should reach NUS Entrepreneurship Centre within 2 weeks after the online submission:
- Copy of the completed Application form with a recent passport-size photograph attached.
- Letter from Home University certifying that you are a current student registered with the University.
- Academic Transcript (s) issued by your Home University (with English translation, if applicable). The transcript should be endorsed with the university’s seal and official signatory.
- Copy of Passport (the page showing your nationality and personal details).

Please check with your home university on your eligibility. Students are required to have reasonable good level of speaking English as the program will be conducted in English.
- Will the Program provide any credits?
No, the Program is not credit granting.
- What is the timetable for the two weeks Program?
Click here for the tentative program. Lectures and visits will be distributed evenly across the two weeks. You will have free time over the weekend for your own sightseeing program.

You will be informed by end of May 2009 of your application status.

You will be presented with a Certificate of Attendance by the NUS Entrepreneurship Centre.
