Singapore Summer Program
on

Economic and Enterprise Development
in Singapore
at the
National University of Singapore
(14 – 25 July 2008)

Overview

The National University of Singapore, NUS Entrepreneurship Centre is pleased to organise a Summer Program for students from our partner universities from various parts of the world.  The Program will be held from 14 – 25 July 2008 on NUS campus.

It is an excellent opportunity for participants to learn about Singapore and how it has progressed from a small trading port into a modern city-state. Participants will also get to experience the culture, interact with locals, understand how public policies are formulated, and gain insights on business practices in Singapore.

Participants will each be awarded a Certificate of Attendance issued by the NUS Entrepreneurship Centre upon completing the Program in Singapore.

Program Outline

  • Lectures conducted by lecturers from the National University of Singapore. Topics covered include:
    • People, Politics  and Culture of Singapore
    • From Third World to First: Economic Development of Singapore
    • Human Resources Strategy in Singapore
    • Public Sector Management and Public Policy in Singapore
    • Enterprise Development in Singapore
    • Entrepreneurship Development in Singapore
    • Entrepreneurial Venture Creation : From Idea to  Business Plan
  • Guest lectures by government representatives, business executives and professionals from local businesses
  • Site visits to selected government departments, statutory boards, and business corporations in Singapore
  • Dialogue sessions with government officials and entrepreneurs
  • Group presentation
  • Interaction with students from the National University of Singapore

The lectures will be conducted in English.

Program Fee

The Program fee is as follows:

  • SGD$1,800 (US$1,295) for student exchange partner universities
  • SGD$2,500 (US$1,799) for non-student exchange partner universities
The fee is inclusive of the following
  • All activities listed in the program outline
  • Accommodation at student hostel (non air-con)
  • Coach travel to site visits arranged by NUS

The Program fee does not cover airfare and airport taxes, travel insurance, visas, meals and personal expenses.

Accommodation


Students will stay on campus at the student residential hall, Prince George’s Park Residences.

Prince George’s Park Residences (PGPR) is located at Prince George’s Park Road. This new residential complex offers 2854 single rooms.

The single rooms are grouped into clusters of 15 and offer its residents an apartment lifestyle. The 15 residents in each cluster are entrusted with collective responsibility for their shared facilities. Each cluster has its own kitchen, dining area, and bathroom facilities. The cluster lifestyle exposes students to independent living and also offers excellent opportunities for close interaction.

Points for personal telephone, television and computer linkage to the university’s network and the Internet, are provided in every room.

PGPR also houses a lecture theatre, seminar rooms, a multi-purpose hall, gymnasium, basketball and tennis courts, a jogging track, an exercise station, mini-supermarket, four food outlets and other service outlets. Distributed throughout the whole residence, are air-conditioned lounges, television rooms, meetings and reading rooms. PGPR is conveniently linked to the Faculties and other key facilities on campus via a shuttle service.

Application Deadline


Interested students should approach your home university’s International Relations Office or equivalent offices for advice. Students must be nominated by the University before proceeding to apply. Please download the application form here and submit via email before 16 May 2008.

Please note that the following supporting documents should reach NUS Entrepreneurship Centre within 2 weeks after the online submission:

    1. Copy of the completed Application form with a recent passport-size photograph attached.
    2. Letter from Home University certifying that you are a current student registered with the University.
    3. Academic Transcript (s) issued by your Home University (with English translation, if applicable). The transcript should be endorsed with the university’s seal and official signatory.
    4. Copy of Passport (the page showing your nationality and personal details).

  1. Who is eligible to apply for the NUS Summer Program?
    Please check with your home university on your eligibility.  Students are required to have reasonable good level of speaking English as the program will be conducted in English.

  2. Will the Program provide any credits?
    No, the Program is not credit granting.

  3. What is the timetable for the two weeks Program?
    Click here for the tentative program.  Lectures and visits will be distributed evenly across the two weeks.  You will have free time over the weekend for your own sightseeing program.

    You will be informed by end of May 2008 of your application status.
