The NUS Institute of Operations Research and Analytics (IORA) have entered into a research collaboration with Kulicke & Soffa Industries (K&S) that aims to apply machine learning methodologies to enhance manufacturing and supply chain processes. The ability to refine these processes using a ‘smart manufacturing’ approach will allow for the optimisation of both the manufacturing process and supplier management, which will in turn reduce manufacturing costs, improve product quality, and enhance customer satisfaction.
The research collaboration was kicked off with a signing ceremony held on January 11, 2019, at NUS’s i4.0 building. The i4.0 building houses all the research entities, including IORA, under the Smart Nation Research Cluster.
The research collaboration, which was signed by Prof Teo Chung Piaw, Executive Director of IORA, and Ms Joyce Lim, Senior Vice President, Global Operations and Supply Chain, K&S, is part of K&S’s three-year factory automation investment roadmap, and is further supported by the Singapore Economic Development Board.
