Bursaries

There are various types of NUS bursaries which are awarded to eligible needy students who apply for financial aid. These are granted as university administered bursaries and they are offered as part of the financial aid package awarded to eligible applicants based on the assessed needs level.

A. NUS Bursaries (Administered by Student Financial Aid Unit)

Value

Who is eligible?

Application

Varies according to the assessed neediness of the applicant.

Needy undergraduates who have obtained 100% financing from TFL and/or CPF Education Scheme and/or Mendaki Tertiary Tuition Fee Subsidy and the NUS Study Loan (with living allowance).

Recipient may not concurrently hold any other award without prior approval of the Student Financial Aid Unit.

Award is tenable for one year. If the recipient wishes to be considered for the award in the next academic year, re-application for financial aid is necessary.

Apply online for financial aid from 1 March - 1 April. No separate application for this bursary is required.

Note:
a) Application for NUS Financial Aid and TFL/CPF Education Scheme/Mendaki Tertiary Tuition Fee Subsidy can be done concurrently.

b) Request to apply for NUS Financial Aid after deadline as stipulated should be sent to financialaid@nus.edu.sg stating full name, student number and reasons for late application.

 

A2. Andy Chua Bursary

Value

Who is eligible?

Condition

Application

$6,000 per award.

Final year students who intend to pursue a career in a media-related industry upon graduation.

Recipient may not concurrently hold any other award without approval.

Award is tenable for one year.

Separate application is necessary. Download the form here from 1 June and submit to Student Financial Aid Unit by 30 June for application in AY2008/2009.

 

B. MOE Bursary (Administered by Student Financial Aid Unit)

Who is eligible?

Condition

Application

$800 - $1,200 per award

Singapore Citizens whose monthly per capita household income* (PCI) is not more than $1,700.

Singapore Citizens who are pursuing their first undergraduate degree on part-time basis are eligible.

Award is tenable for one year.

Recipient may not concurrently hold any other scholarship or bursary except for award/bursary that are meant for specific programmes such as an overseas exchange programme. Approval must be sought from the respective awarding bodies.

For full-time students, please follow procedure as stated in A1.

Part-time students may request to apply in July/August via financialaid@nus.edu.sg.

 

C. NUS Students' Fund Bursary (Administered by NUS Students' Union)

Who is eligible?

Condition

Application

$1,500 per award.

Needy undergraduates who have applied for TFL.

Recipient may not concurrently hold any other award.

Award is tenable for one year.

Separate application is necessary. The application form can be downloaded from the NUSSF website.

Copies of the form can also be obtained from NUSSU Secretariat. Completed forms should be returned to NUSSU Secretariat in September.

 

D. CDC/CCC Bursary (Administered by the respective CDC/CCC)

Who is eligible?

Condition

Application

$1,600 per award.

 

Singapore Citizens whose monthly per capita household income* (PCI) is not more than $500.

For Medical and Dental students, their PCI should not exceed $800.

Award is tenable for one year.

Recipient may not concurrently hold another scholarship/grant.
Recipient may concurrently hold another bursary except for the MOE Bursary and any other award/bursary that are meant for specific programmes such as an overseas exchange programme. Approval must be sought from the respective awarding bodies.

Download application form here from 22 September 2008 and obtain endorsement from the Student Service Centre between 29 September – 7 October 2008. Submit the endorsed form to the Community Centre nearest to your home by 10 October 2008 (9pm).

 

E. Foo Clan Association Bursary (Administered by Foo Clan Association)

Value

Who is eligible?

Condition

Application

Varies according to the assessed needines of the applicant.

Applicant must be a Singapore Citizen who has the Chinese surname “符”.

Applicant’s monthly household income is not more than $2,500.

Priority will be given to existing Foo Clan Association members.

Non-members who are successful in their applications shall join the Association as members in order to receive the bursary funds.

* Monthly per capita household income refers to the total income of all those living in the household divided by the number of people in the household.

Disbursement of Funds

Upon satisfactory compliance of all terms and conditions of the scholarship/financial aid offer, funds in respect of the same will be credited to the student's account with the Office of Financial Services. All fees due to the University will however be deducted from such proceeds prior to crediting.
