1. Can I apply for any financial assistance or scholarship?

Full-time graduate students can apply for a variety of scholarships, which are awarded to outstanding graduate students at this University.

Graduate students doing research degrees (full-time or part-time) and selected coursework programmes (full-time only)  and are not scholarship holders, may apply for a loan of up to 90% of the tuition fee payable by Singapore Citizens for the same course under the Tuition Fee Loan Scheme.

Full-time graduate students may also apply for the NUS Notebook Ownership Scheme.

The Part-time Appointment Scheme provides graduate students the opportunities to earn additional income as a tutor or researcher within NUS. Other on-campus or off-campus job opportunities are also available at the eJobCentre.

2. How much is the scholarship (if any) and is there a quota?

The University offers a variety of scholarships to students. The quantum and quota differs from one scholarship to another.

3. Will I be bonded if I take up the NUS Research Scholarship?

There is no bond attached to the scholarship and we do not guarantee employment upon the scholar's graduation.

4. Can I work while receiving the research scholarship?

Research scholars are not allowed to accept any form of employment, whether or not he/she is remunerated, except for departmental work in NUS for which they may be remunerated without prior written approval from the University.

5. Can an international student work while studying here as a graduate student?

Full-time international students who are NOT scholarship holders may apply to work on a part-time basis during the period of their candidature. However, international students who work part-time must not exceed 16 hours of work per week during official school term.

6. Can a self-financing research student apply for a scholarship? If yes, when and how can he/she do so?

A self-financing research student can apply for a scholarship by submitting a letter of request anytime to the supervisor(s), who will seek approval from the Head of the respective department and the Dean.
