Social Visit Pass for Spouses of President’s Graduate Fellowship/Lee Kong Chian Graduate Scholarship/Research Scholarship Recipients

Recipients of the following awards may obtain sponsorship from the University for a social visit pass for their spouses:

  1. President’s Graduate Fellowship
  2. Lee Kong Chian Graduate Scholarship
  3. Research Scholarship

An application should be submitted only after a scholar has registered with the University and has obtained a student pass.

1.

First-time Application

   
  (a) The scholar should get his/her spouse to apply for an entry visa at one of Singapore ’s Embassies or Consulates overseas (for nationals of visa required countries). The Registrar’s Office will no longer submit the application to ICA . Once the spouse arrives in Singapore , he/she will be given a 4 week social visit pass at the airport.
   
  (b) The scholar will have to submit an application for a conversion of the social visit pass to one sponsored by the University. In this connection, he/she has to complete and submit the following forms in the below order to the Registrar’s Office for endorsement:
   
    (i) Form R.081/2001
    (ii) Form 76/2001
- Complete the form and duly signed by scholar and a witness (above age 21).
    (iii) Form 14
- Fill in the particulars of spouse.
- Spouse must sign personally.
- Section II on Page 4 need not be completed
    (iv) Form V39I (Malaysians are not required to submit this form)
These forms can be downloaded from the ICA Website.
       
      In addition, the scholar will also have to submit the following with the forms:

(i) A copy of the marriage certificate
(ii) A copy of the scholar's student pass

The Registrar’s Office will issue an endorsement letter. This letter with the forms, duly signed, should be collected from the Student Service Centre (Level 1, Yusof Ishak House) after 4 working days from the date of receipt of application by the Registrar’s Office. The scholar and his spouse will then proceed to the ICA at Lavender Street to submit the forms in person.

       
  (c) The scholar spouse will then have to go for a medical examination if the cumulative period of stay in Singapore is 6 months or longer. If the medical checkup has already been done in the home country, the social visit pass can be approved in a day or two.
   
2. Application of Extension of the Social Visit Pass
   
  To extend a social visit pass already sponsored by NUS, the scholar should submit only:
   
  (a) Form R.081/2001
  (b) Form 14
  (c) Form V39I (Malaysians are not required to submit this form)
   
  Please download the forms from the ICA Website:
   
  The endorsement letter from the Registrar's Office may be collected at the Student Service Centre (Level 1, Yusof Ishak House) after 4 working days (from date of receipt of application by the Registrar's Office). The scholar's NUS student card must be produced to collect the endorsement letter. The scholar's spouse is required to complete the formalities in person at the ICA.
   
  Important Notes
   
  i) For a list of countries whose nationals require a visa to enter Singapore , please refer to the ICA website.
     
  ii) Please note that nationals of P.R. China, who wish to visit Singapore as independent tourists, can approach certain tour agencies in China which have been authorized by the Singapore Government to arrange for visas (for more information, please contact the offices of the Singapore Tourism Board in China). Travelers who apply for visas through these tour agencies will no longer be required to put down a security deposit although the tour agencies have the discretion to decide on an individual basis if a particular applicant still needs to put down such a deposit.
     
  iii) Qualified Chinese nationals can also submit applications for Singapore visas at selected branches of the CITIC Industrial Bank located in 17 provinces of China . For more information, please call the following CITIC Industrial Bank telephone numbers:

  iv) Some of the information stated in this leaflet differs from that on the ICA web site as the information on the ICA web site may be more relevant for private sponsorship of social visit pass.
     
  v) Ensure that all forms are completed and duly signed, and all the supporting documents are submitted. Any incomplete forms or documents, or missing documents may result in non-acceptance or delay at the ICA . NUS will not be responsible for ensuring the completeness of the information submitted by applicant.
     
  vi) Scholar will have to furnish additional information and documents as and when requested by the ICA.
     
  vii) Official translations of the documents are required if they are not in the English Language.
     
  Viii) NUS sponsorship of a scholar's spouse will only be up to the period of the scholarship, and will be withdrawn upon termination of the scholarship.
     
  ix) Each social visit pass is usually for a stay of 1-3 months. The final decision lies with ICA.
     
  x) The University will not act as a sponsor for the scholar’s other family members. The scholar will have to seek his own private sponsor who must be a Singapore citizen or Permanent Resident and who will need to pay a security deposit to ICA (ranges from S$1,000 to S$5,000) and which is refundable once the sponsored person leaves Singapore and is confirmed has not breached any immigration regulations.
     
  xi) Scholar's spouse must undergo a medical examination if the cumulative period of stay in Singapore is 6 months or longer. For details, the scholar can dial the ICA Hotline at 63916100.
