Immigration Matters

For international students who need a student pass for their studies in Singapore, the University has registered your student pass application via the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) Student Pass Online Application & Registration (SOLAR) System. It is important that you access SOLAR to complete Form 16, submit a digital photograph and pay the processing fee of the multiple-entry visa fee of $30 where upon ICA will process your student pass and the University can then obtain the In-Principle Approval (IPA) letter to be sent to you.

At the immigration checkpoint upon your arrival, please present (a) the original In-Principle Approval letter (IPA), if you have received it, and (b) your valid passport to the Duty Officer. You will then be issued with a Special Pass/Social Visit Pass, normally valid for four weeks. During this period, you have to complete your registration procedures.

At the Registration Centre, you have to get the following documents/items ready for the Student Pass application:

  • Copy of the IPA letter*
  • Passport and photocopy of the passport (biodata page)
  • Disembarkation & Embarkation card (IMM 27)
  • Printout of the Student Pass application form (Form 16) from SOLAR, which must be duly signed
  • One recent colour passport-sized photograph attached to the top right corner of the form
  • A Cash Card/NETS to pay for the student pass fees (please open a bank account to obtain a ATM card for NETS payment or to top-up the Cash Card)
  • The original copy of the completed medical report, X-ray report and laboratory report (must be in English)
  • Scholarship letter, if applicable

*After your registration, your IPA letter will be stamped. For students who did not receive the IPA letter before departure, a copy will be issued to you at the Registration Centre.

ICA will set up a booth at the Registration Centre (MPSH1) during the period 24 July to 3 August 2009 (except Saturdays and Sundays) to allow international students to submit the necessary documents and make payment of the issuance fee of $60 and $30 multiple-entry visa fee (only for visa required nationals) for the student pass application. Payment is only by NETS/Cashcard. Payment by credit card/E-banking can be done online at the ICA website. Those who register after 3 August 2009 will have to go to ICA , which is located next to Lavender MRT Station for the student pass application.

All applications for extension of the student pass have to be submitted through the online SOLAR system. Students applying for an extension of the student pass are advised to submit the application at least 1 month before the expiry date of the current student pass. Please note that it is an offence to overstay without a valid pass.
