Wallace Prize

The Wallace Prize is a book prize which was created by the Council in 1959 to commemorate the works of Alfred Russel Wallace in the Far East in the field of organic evolution and the geographic distribution of animals.

Its award is governed by the following conditions:

1. The Wallace Prize shall be awarded annually by the Board of Undergraduate Studies, on the recommendation of the Board of Examiners, to the top graduating student who has distinguished herself/himself in BSc Honours (Life Sciences) in the area of concentration of Biology.
   
2. No award shall be made unless the Board of Undergraduate Studies is satisfied that the candidate is of sufficient merit.
   
3. The prize money, which shall not exceed $100 in any year, shall be spent by the successful candidate on books.
   
4. The prize will be in the form of book vouchers.
   
5. If no award is made in any year, the funds available shall be carried forward to provide for the award of an additional prize in a subsequent year when there are two candidates of closely comparable high standard.
   
6. Any annual revenue in excess of $100 shall be retained and shall be applied from time to time to the award of a second prize.
   
7. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 15A on Gifts to the University and the corresponding regulations, as amended.

Wang Gungwu Medal and Prize

Arising from a donation in 2005 by Professor Wang Gungwu, three awards each comprising a medal and cash prize will be made to recognize the research achievements of graduate students. The awards will be supported by proceeds from a total fund of $300,000, comprising a gift of $150,000 and a matching grant.

Wee Kim Wee Medal

Donated in 2004 by The Courage Fund, a gold medal per intake is awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $30,000. The medal is named after Dr. Wee Kim Wee, former President of Singapore

The award is governed by the following conditions:

1. Subject to rule 3 below, the gold medal is awarded to the most outstanding Master of Nursing student.
   
2. The prize will be made by the Board of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
   
3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
   
4. In the event of there being more than one candidate of sufficient merit, the Board of Examiners will take into consideration the performance of the candidates throughout the course of study.
   
5. If no award is made in any year, the funds available will be carried forward to provide for awards in subsequent years.
   
6. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 15A on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulations, as amended.

Wong Hock Boon Clinical Immunology and Allergy Prize

Established in 2007 as an endowed award, the Wong Hock Boon Clinical Immunology and Allergy Prize is open to all third to fifth year medical students. It is awarded for the best essay on a research topic in clinical immunology and allergy, including paediatric rheumatology. Research topics should involve work done in Singapore. Each essay may be co-authored by up to 2 students, if the topic is deemed to be sufficiently difficult and time-consuming, and the award, if presented, will then be shared. Essays are to be submitted through the Head, Department of Paediatrics, NUS, for adjudication on or before 31st January of each year.

The award is governed by the following conditions:

1. Subject to Rule 5, the prize will be awarded to the student(s) with the best essay on a research topic in clinical immunology and allergy, including paediatric rheumatology.
   
2. The award will be made by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of a Selection Committee comprising the Dean of the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine (or his nominee), the Head of the Department of Paediatrics (NUS) and the President of the Allergy & Clinical Immunology Society (Singapore) (or his nominee).
3. The award will be a plaque and a cash prize of $250.
4. The award may be shared by up to 2 candidates if their essay is chosen by the selection committee.
5. No award will be made unless there is a candidate(s) of sufficient merit.
6. If no award is made in any year, the funds available will be added to the capital sum.
7. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 15A on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulations, as amended.

Wong Hock Boon Gold Medal

Donated in 1982 by Dr Ang Poon Liat, the medal is awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $10,000.

1. Subject to there being a candidate of sufficient merit, the medal will be awarded annually to the most outstanding candidate in the Examination leading to the degree of Master of Medicine (Paediatrics).
   
2. The award will be made by the Board of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of the Board of Examiners.

Wong Lin Ken Memorial Medal and Book Prize

The Wong Lin Ken Memorial Fund was established in 1983 by former colleagues, students and friends in memory of the late Professor Wong Lin Ken, former Professor of History. The gold medal and book prize are awarded from the proceeds of the Fund.

1. Subject to rule 2 below, the gold medal and book prize will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the Head of the Department of History and the Dean of the Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences to the student who has submitted the best Academic Exercise in the Honours year course in History.
   
2. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
   
3. If no award is made, the prize money will be added to the capital sum.
   
4. If in any year, there are two or more candidates of equal merit, the Board of Undergraduate Studies may, subject to funds being available, apportion the award in such manner as it thinks fit. In such an event, the candidates' performance during the Honours year course and their overall examination results will be taken into consideration.
   
5. It will not be obligatory for the Board of Undergraduate Studies to award the medal and the book prize to the same candidate.
   
6. The book prize, which has a value not exceeding $200, will be in the form of book vouchers.

Wong Poi Kwong Medal

Donated in 2002 by the family of Dr Wong Poi Kwong, a gold medal is awarded from the proceeds of the capital sum of $30,000. This award will replace the Brunel Hawes Gold Medal. The award is governed by the following conditions:

1. Subject to rule 3 below, the medal will be awarded to an outstanding student in Clinical Medicine in the Final Professional M.B.,B.S. Examination.
   
2. The medal will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
   
3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
   
4. If there is no award made in any year, the funds available will be added to the capital sum.
   
5. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 15A on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulations, as amended.

World Valuation Congress Medal

Endowed in 2001 by the World Valuation Congress IX organizing committee, a gold medal is awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $15,000. The award is governed by the following conditions:

1. Subject to rule 3 below, the medal will be awarded to a graduating student who has passed with at least a Second Class Honours (Upper Division) and has the best overall performance in Valuation modules taken in his/her B.Sc (Real Estate) course.
   
2. The medal will be awarded by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the Head of the Department of Real Estate.
   
3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
   
4. If there is no award made in any year, the funds available will be added to the capital sum.
   
5. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, and specifically, Statute 15A on Gifts to the University and the corresponding regulations, as amended.

Wrigley Company Book Prize

Donated in 1978 by Wrigley Company (H.K.) Ltd., the prize has a value not exceeding $100 and is awarded from the proceeds of a capital sum of $2,000.

1. Subject to rule 3 below, the prize will be awarded on the results of the First Professional B.D.S. Examination to the best or second best student in Biochemistry.
   
2. The award will be made by the Board of Undergraduate Studies on the recommendation of the Board of Examiners for the First Professional B.D.S. Examination.
   
3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
   
4. If in any year there are, in the opinion of the Board of Undergraduate Studies, two or more candidates of equal merit, the Board of Undergraduate Studies may utilize such proceeds as are available from the capital sum to provide for such additional prizes as may be appropriate, subject to the value of each prize not exceeding $100.
   
5. The prize will be in the form of book vouchers.
   
6. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations, specifically, Statute 15A on Gifts to the University and the corresponding Regulations, as amended.

WyWy Gold Medals

Donated in 1998 by the WyWy Group, a gold medal is awarded annually from the proceeds of a capital sum of $20,000. In 2002, the award was extended to two gold medals. The awards are governed by the following conditions:

1. Subject to rule 3 below, the gold medals are awarded to the Master in Public Management (MPM) student with the best MPM Attachment Paper and the Master in Public Policy (MPP) student with the best MPP Policy Analysis Exercise.
   
2. The awards will be made by the Board of Graduate Studies of the Faculty on the recommendation of the relevant Board of Examiners.
   
3. No awards will be made unless there are candidates of sufficient merit.
   
4. If no award is made in any year, the income generated will be added to the capital sum.
   
5. This gift shall be governed by the University Statutes and Regulations , and specifically Statute 15A on Gifts to the University and the corresponding regulations, as amended.
