  c. Students can select either one of the following two options:

i. Full SEP - to spend an entire semester pursuing all modules at the host university; or
ii. Partial SEP - to take up modules in both the home university (i.e. NUS) and host university (i.e. either NTU or SMU)

  d. NUS may send up to a maximum of 20 full-time students per semester to either NTU or SMU. The number of students exchanged will be on an enrolment basis regardless of the study being under partial or full exchange.

2. Where can I go?

You can study at either Nanyang Technological University (NTU) or Singapore Management University (SMU).

You must visit NTU and SMU Homepage to get more details on the modules they offer.

3. How much will it cost?

Tuition fees are waived by each partner institution for incoming students. All other costs are the responsibility of the student. These include personal and living expenses (including accommodation and food), medical/health insurance, obligatory expenditure and debts incurred for the duration of your study at the host university.

You will also be required to pay for the use of non-academic or non-obligatory facilities, services and functions at the respective host university.

4. How do I apply?
The application for SUSEP is conducted twice a year for Semester 1 and Semester 2. You should start planning for your exchange programme at least 6 months before the start of the exchange period.

  Application Process

Step 1 – Do Your Homework

  i. You should start planning for your SUSEP at least 6 months before the start of the exchange period, such as:

  • confirm your eligibility
  • check out the local Partner University you would like to go to and the required application materials
ii. You must submit your SEP Study Plan and get the necessary approval from your respective Faculty/School Dean’s Office to ensure that the modules at the local Partner University will fulfill your degree requirements.

iii. Clarification on academic matters for the SEP Study Plan Form for the Partner University should be directed to the SEP administrators/coordinators at the respective Faculty/School Dean’s Office or the academic department.

Step 2 – Submit an Application
  iv.

To participate in the local exchange programme, you must fill in a formal SUSEP application form and submit it to your Faculty/School Dean’s Office. There will be a selection process firstly at NUS followed by at the host university.

* Please check with your Administrators in the Dean's Office for actual application deadlines*

Note: Registrar’s Office will automatically proceed to print a copy of your academic transcript once you have accepted the internal offer made by your respective Faculty/School. This will be included in your student’s bill accordingly. You will not be required to apply for the transcript online.

  v. You must also confirm whether you have applied/will apply/will not apply for other overseas programmes (e.g. IRO Other Programmes, NUS Overseas Colleges, etc.) and to indicate the priority of your choice accordingly.

vi. Pending the outcome of your application, you should still proceed to register for NUS modules for the next semester.

Step 3 – Submit an Application to Your Host University

  vii.

Once you are selected to go on SUSEP, you will be informed by your respective Faculty/School to submit a formal application with the necessary documents to the host university.

*If you have been successful in your application, your exchange status will be automatically updated. As such, you will not be required to apply for SEP Leave of Absence (LOA).

viii. Please ensure that all the required information and supporting documents are submitted accordingly as any incomplete application will delay the evaluation process and may thus affect the outcome of your application.

5. What happen after SUSEP?

Post-SUSEP matters

  i.

You will be informed (via email) to collect a copy of your original transcript received from the SEP Partner University either at Student Service Centre - Yusof Ishak House; or at our Bukit Timah Campus Management Office (for Law students only).

Note: All transcripts which are not collected within the stipulated deadlines (i.e. 31 July and 31 December), will be discarded.

ii. If you receive your original transcript directly from the SUSEP Partner University, please bring the original to Registrar’s Office for us to make a copy for our record and to facilitate updating of your student record subsequently.

iii. You will also be required to approach your Faculty/School Dean’s Office directly for issues pertaining to credit transfer.

iv. You will have to register for the next semester and, if necessary, file for graduation at your Faculty/School.

SUSEP Extension

    a. You may apply for an extension of the exchange period at the Partner University, if necessary. However, you will need to get prior approval from both the Partner University and your Faculty’s/School’s Deanery to the proposed extension, including the modules/courses to be taken.

    b. You should forward the email from the Partner University’s confirmation on the approved extension to the SEP administrators/coordinators of your respective Dean’s Office. The Dean’s Office will then respond to your request for the SUSEP extension.

    g. Deferment of SUSEP within the academic year will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Such students must obtain approval from the Dean’s Office and/or the respective Partner University.
