NATIONAL UNIVERSITY of SINGAPORE

STRATEGIC THRUSTS AND STRATEGIES

Through the strategic planning exercise, critical success factors have been identified under the University's major functions: teaching and learning, research and services.  Strategies have been proposed to attain these success factors, and are grouped under the following six strategic thrusts:

Enhance NUS as a centre for quality education

  Create new knowledge and technology

Forge partnerships with public and private-sector
    organisations

  Spearhead continuing education

Provide quality service to the community

  Strengthen core capabilities and infrastructure

The total number of key strategies under the six thrusts was distilled to 20 (as shown in Table 1), a manageable number for implementation and supervision.  The achievement of the first five strategic thrusts will to a large extent be dependent on the success of the sixth strategic thrust.  The latter is arguably the most important of all the strategic thrusts and will need the special attention of management.
