PROSE "Eye on English" Contest (For NUS Staff and Students)

Spot signboards written in poor English and
win great prizes!

Have you been irritated, confused or amused by signs written in poor English? Take photographs of those signs and submit them to the PROSE “Eye on English” Contest.  If your entry is selected, you can win an attractive cash prize. 

This contest is open to all NUS Students and Staff. Winning entries will be displayed on the PROSE website.

Grand prize:        $300
Second prize:      $200
Third prize:         $100

 

Photographs should be:

  • of signs, posters, placards, or other publicly displayed notices
  • taken anywhere in Singapore
  • original and not captured from other websites or published sources
  • accompanied by details of the time and place you took the photograph (for verification purposes)
  • accompanied by a note explaining how the sign should read in Standard English
  • in jpeg format and not larger than 300kb in size
  • submitted by 28 March 2008 using the entry form provided

Preliminary judging will be based on:

  • originality of the error
  • appropriacy of the sign in relation to its location
  • accuracy of the corrected version in Standard English
  • clarity of the photograph (for use on the PROSE website or PROSE publications)
