  • Awarded Carnegie Research Scholarship and studied at Leipzig and Tubingen.

Career

  • circa 1904 Spent several months as an assistant to one of the leading private practitioners in Aberdeenshire
  • 1908 Physiologist and assistant pathologist, Medical School, Singapore
  • 1909-18 Principal, Medical School, Singapore

Office held

  • In 1908, he proceeded to Manila as representative for the Colony at the Philippine Islands Medical Association.
  • Joined the 1st Volunteer battalion Gordon Highlanders while he was a student.
    He was appointed:
    • 1911 Surgeon Lieutenant, Singapore Volunteer Corps
    • 1912 Surgeon Captain, Singapore Volunteer Corps
    • 1912-1918 Captain, Singapore Volunteer Corps
  • Member, Straits Settlements and Federated Malay States Medical Council

Honours

  • Won a number of class prizes during his University career, including gold medals in surgery, medicine and midwifery.
