Safety & Health Professional (Biosafety)
Job Summary Responsibilities Requirements
Candidate will be responsible for the development of workplace safety and health management system for NUS laboratory-based faculties/research institutes, in particular those conducting life science research. He or she will also be responsible for supporting the NUS biosafety programme, which includes conducting training, inspections, audits, etc.
  1. Support the development and implementation of Safety Management System (SMS) for departments conducting biomedical research.
  2. Review risk assessments for biomedical research projects.
  3. Liaise with regulatory authorities (MOH, GMAC, AVA etc.) and ensure legal compliance for researchers conducting research projects in NUS.
  4. Conduct safety audits and inspections for NUS research facilitates and prepare reports
  5. Review documents and compile relevant information for meetings and communicate to stakeholders.
  1. Master’s Degree in Life Sciences with microbiological knowledge and least 3 years of biosafety experience in a biomedical laboratory.

  3. Awareness of local safety regulations and some experience in developing and implementing WSH management system and programs.
  4. Understanding of the scientific and safety related issues of biomedical research protocols and ability to review the risk assessments for such protocols.
  5. Knowledge and understanding of biosafety principles, policies, and procedures.
  6. Effective communication (verbal and technical writing) skills, excellent customer service skills with attention to detail.
  7. Well versed with Microsoft office and good documentation control. IT application knowledge will be an advantage.
  8. Qualifications such as Biosafety coordinator and OHSAS 18001 Lead Auditor or equivalent would be an added advantage.
Safety & Health Professional (General Safety and Health)
Job Summary Responsibilities Requirements
Candidate will be responsible for the development of workplace safety and health management system for NUS laboratory-based faculties/research institutes.
  1. Provide advice to management, staff and students on workplace safety issues.
  2. Conduct safety training for staff and students
  3. Conduct audits and inspections of clinical/teaching/research laboratories and their supporting facilities
  4. Develop safety related technical manuals and standard operating procedures
  5. Facilitate the application of licenses and liaise with the relevant authority for l license / permit issues
  6. Lead investigations for all accident and incidents in the institute / lab
  7. Conduct and execute safety promotional activities in the Institute / lab.
  8. Serve as secretariat for institute’s safety committee

 

  1. Degree in Physical Sciences or Engineering
  2. At least 5 years’ experience in developing, implementing and auditing WSH management system and programmes.

  4. Prior experience in laboratory research and operations would be advantageous
  5. Workplace Safety and Health Officer certification would be advantageous
  6. Knowledge of WSH legislative requirements
  7. Experience working in a research and development or higher education organization would be advantageous
  8. Effective communication and technical writing skills, with attention to detail
