Student's Pass



Information

Important for all new International Students to NUS

All international students must hold a valid Student's Pass (SP) issued by the Singapore Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) for their studies at NUS.

New Application

New applications for a Student's Pass must be submitted at least one month and not more than two months before the commencement of the course through ICA's Student's Pass Online Application & Registration (SOLAR) system.

  1. Registration for a Student's Pass
    Before you submit your application, NUS will register you through SOLAR with the following information:
    • Your name, date of birth, gender and nationality (as appear in your travel document)
    • Course details, course commencement and course end dates
    • SOLAR application reference number
  2. Submission of eForm 16
    Once NUS has successfully registered your information, you may login to SOLAR to submit eForm 16.
     
    You must have the following information before logging into SOLAR:
    • A registration acknowledgement notice with the login information provided by NUS
    • Passport details (including travel document/passport number, date of expiry, etc)
    • NRIC/FIN of parents if your parents are Singaporean or foreigners who are working or residing in Singapore
    • A Singapore address and contact details
    • Your email address
    • One recent passport-sized color photograph (to be pasted on the top-right corner of e-Form 16) and must meet the following requirements:
      - Image must be taken within the last three months
      - Photograph should be in color, must be taken against a white background with a matt or semi-matt finish
      - Image must show the full face and without headgear (headgear worn in accordance with religious or racial customs is acceptable but must not hide the facial features)

Upon submission of the eForm16 through SOLAR, students are required to print a copy of the eForm16 for submission to ICA to complete formalities for the issuance of a Student's Pass (if the application is successful).

Completion of Formalities

The Student's Pass issued will include the photograph of the student and an image of his/her fingerprint. To facilitate the capturing of the fingerprint and photo, ICA officers will be present at the NUS Registration Centre at Multi-Purpose Sports Hall, during the official registration period in July/January respectively. Students who have the following documents completed may submit them to the ICA officers during NUS Registration.

Completed documents:

  • A copy of the In-Principle Approval Letter (endorsed with the NUS stamp);
  • Original Passport with a valid Social Visit Pass;
  • A copy of the passport particulars page;
  • The Disembarkation/Embarkation card (IMM 27) of the student, granted on entry into Singapore. If the student is currently residing in Singapore on other Long Term Pass, he/she is required to bring along this pass;
  • The print-out of eForm 16 submitted through SOLAR (duly completed and signed by the applicant);
  • A medical report in a prescribed ICA format, X-ray and HIV report (must be written in English and endorsed by the reviewing doctor). The laboratory reports must not be more than three months from the date of issue. Students are encouraged to do their medical report in their home country and bring it to Singapore for submission. The medical report is only required for studies of more 6 months;
  • One recent colour passport-sized photo showing full face (taken on white background);
  • Copy of the receipt for payment for the Student's Pass;
  • Two signed copies of the Terms and Conditions of Issue for Long Term Pass (LTP) card;
  • Letter on award of scholarship and waiver of Student's Pass fee (applicable only to certain undergraduate scholarships)

Students who do not have the completed documents for Student's Pass during the NUS Registration period will have to make their way to ICA Building to complete their formalities for collection of Student's Pass. All completion of formalities is strictly by appointment only. Applicant is to make an e-appointment via ICA website at www.ica.gov.sg before going down to ICA.

Payment
Before reporting at the Registration Centre, students should have made payment for the student's pass. Students are advised to make online payment via credit card at the SOLAR website. Alternatively, you can pay by cash or NETs at any SingPost Post Office. For payment at SingPost, please note that an administrative fee may be imposed by the SingPost. You are to bring along a copy of the printed receipt when you report at the ICA booth at the Registration Centre.

Fees

  • A S$30 processing fee (non-refundable) for a Student's Pass application
  • A S$60 issuance fee for every Student's Pass issued
  • A S$30 multiple-entry VISA fee for VISA required nationals where applicable

Note:Prior to the collection of Student's Pass, applicant has to bring a signed copy of the Terms & Conditions of Issue for Long Terms Pass (LTP) card.

Important

Renewal/Extension of Student's Pass

Generally, international students studying in NUS are granted Student's Pass for the full-duration of their course in the universities.

Students who require an extension of the Student's Pass beyond the initial course duration may submit an application to renew the Student's Pass through

  • Submitting an application form for extension of Student's Pass form to Students Service Centre;
  • Application through SOLAR;
  • Upon receiving the IPA letter from Student Service Centre, students are to make an e-appointment via ICA website at www.ica.gov.sg before proceeding down to ICA with the IPA letter and the remaining documents;
  • Student's valid travel document;
  • The Student's Pass Card;
  • Student's visit pass and disembarkation/embarkation card;
  • One recent colour passport-sized photograph showing full face (taken on white background;
  • Medical report (If the last report was more than two years ago).

Processing and issuance fees will apply.

If the student wishes to have a longer period of stay to look for jobs on completion of their courses, he/she may submit an application for a one-year (non-renewable) long term social visit pass to the Social Visit Pass Unit for consideration.

Note: Overstaying is a punishable offence under the Immigration Act. Please take note of the expiry dates of your Social Visit Pass and your Student's Pass and apply for an extension at least a month before they expire.

Change of Address / Particulars

International Students are required to notify ICA if there is any change in their passport particulars or place of residence within 14 days of the change. Students can report their change of address by filling up the "Change of Address" form IMM(E)96 and deposit it into the drop-box located at the Student's Pass Unit near counter 19 at ICA. Alternatively you may email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it to inform them. It will take two weeks to process the application and the student will be informed of the outcome by post.

To update passport particulars, international students will have to report to ICA in person.

Documents required for amendments

  • Valid passport;
  • Current Student's Pass;
  • Disembarkation/Embarkation Card (whichever card is available)

Loss of Student's Pass and Disembarkation / Embarkation Card

International Students who have lost their Student's Pass and Disembarkation/Embarkation cards are required to apply for a replacement within seven days from the date of loss.

Documents required for amendments

  • Valid travel document and a recent photograph;
  • Police Report (original copy);
  • Student's Status Letter (Click here for more information on how to request for a Student's Status Letter).
  • Applicant has to acknowledge a copy of the Terms and Conditions of Issue for the Long Term Pass (LTP) Card.
